The well oiled hash machine swung into action, those unsung elves secured vast supplies of ICED COLD BEER, and even our portly Grand Masters passed their blessings upon the assembled hashers as they assembled in the lot beneath the Burrard Bridge. Plunger and Low Blow ummed and ahhed but finally agreed on a plan - and what is the use of a plan if you can't amend it?

Heather brought her friend, Kim, and Never Comes from California brought his friend, Elisabet from Barcelona, Padraig returned and brought Cristi, Spermanator came, Peppy-Longschlong is a returnee, and so on and so on. Plungah had a very large cigar which was much enjoyed.

The eager hounds set off West towards Stanley Park, but us old hands new darned well that it was one of the two adjacent bridges and so it was Burrard, then into deepest Kits before swinging around for the return over the Granville Street Bridge and a beer check in the soon-to-be-no-more Cecil Hotel. Low Blow kept muttering something about jugs, but the Cecil appeared not to have any, not even wrinkly ones. Vancouver's finest informed the throng gathering outside the Cecil that beer drunk in public would result in confiscation of the beer and a fine of $230 for each individual - ouch!

Being a bunch of cheap bastards we all agreed that discretion was the better part of valour, and returned to the parking lot where we drank furtively until the amber nectar reached the parts that other liquids cannot reach. Our braggadocio slowly returned and in no time at all the fuzz were forgotten and all was well with the world.

The Bash was at SOHO on Denman and one asks why we bother with such a hell hole when there are so many desperate pubs around.

Next week's hash is No.1238 in Belcarra, by Pigeon Stool.

On On!
