Teaching

Taught courses:

First year course on Software Development in Java, with a special focus on Object Oriented design. The schedule is online (subject to changes).
In spring 2011 I was co-organising a Master course on Agent Based Modelling for Spatial Interactions
with my colleagues Dave Murray-Rust and Derek Robinson.
The slides for the lecture on "Model Evaluation: Uncertainty and Sensitivity Analysis, Calibration and Validation" can be downloaded here.

Tutorials:

In March 2009 I gave a one-day EACL tutorial on "Reinforcement Learning for Adaptive Dialogue Systems" together with Oliver Lemon.
Course material for the EACL09 tutorial can be downloaded here.
An extended book version (including recent work on NLG) is available with Springer.

Information for Students:

  • My office hour: Tuesday's 2.15-3.15pm, in my office EM1.36.
  • Please contact me if you are interested in doing a MSc or PhD with me. Some possible topics include:
    • Dialogue Systems: Investigating non-cooperative dialogue strategies for multi-agent settings, combing Reinforcement Learning with Game Theory.
    • Machine Learning: Reinforcement Learning for Playing Non-Cooperative Multi-Player Games.
    • Sustainable Computing: Communicating risk and uncertainty for presenting probabilistic forecasts and recommendations.
