The latest items of importance...

Saturday, 1 August 2009 - Death of Wolf's Desk 1.0

This is the last News post that I will ever make on this site. In time, Google will probably break this site and convert it into Google Sites. I don't know what will become of this site when that happens, but I'm pretty sure it will fall apart and won't work properly. Sites doesn't support HTML and a lot of other things.

My new site is located at http://thepassingshadow.com . Please visit that site and watch it as it grows. It was nice knowing you, Google Pages. Thank you for the year and a half that you hosted my website.

Friday, 24 July 2009 - New Site

I had been talking about revamping my website completely and now that talk is becoming reality.

I have purchased a domain (thepassingshadow.com) and this Google Pages website is going to be ancient history before too long. I am currently undergoing development for this site and it will be launched when it is ready. More than likely, a beta page will be released before the final page is ready for publishing.

When will this be ready ? Probably around the same time I return from Camp Mikell.

In essence, before the end of the month, something will be up. Maybe the full site, or perhaps a beta version. But something will be up. I'm very excited about this.

PS- If you visit thepassingshadow.com right now, you will see a prototype and testing website I created a year ago. It's about my cat. I might work on that later, but I assure you, it's not related in any way to Wolf's Desk. Mostly only for FTP publishing tests.

Monday, 13 July 2009 - WolfBay

Today my site steps forward for the first time in many months.

For a few weeks, my good friend (who prefers to be called ShellsOTF over the internet) has been assisting me in constructing this page. In truth, it was him who fully constructed the site. I simply gave him the idea and the means to do it. The URL may change later if this uploading service becomes popular, but it is currently http://wolfbay.tk

How to use WolfBay:

1) Choose which section you would like to upload your file to (ex. Screenshots, Wallpapers)

2) Give as much information as you like as the poster or remain Anonymous (recommended). If you leave an email, you will probably be notified if your file is to be deleted for whatever reason. Make sure you enter in the captcha code.

3) Browse your computer for the file and and then press submit.

4) You are done ! Link your page to uploaded files, use them however you like. Share photos with friends. WolfBay is just like any other image uploading site, except that it supports other file formats as well.

Thursday, 22 March 2009 - Shutdown

"I suppose you all are disappointed."

No.

The website is returning to basic functionality for now. I am too busy to maintain updates, as any of you can very easily see. So, the site is reverting to its old, simplistic nature.

When the time comes, it will be revived. Really revived.

Thursday, 05 February 2009 - Moving Forward, Rebirth

I suppose you are all disappointed. It is my assumption that if you are taking time out of your day to read this, then you must care even a little about my website. This surprises me, however. I look at my Google Analytics Dashboard occasionally to see how many views my site has received in recent days. For a few months, the views have never exceeded six views in one day. This time last year, ten or twelve views would be a small amount. I averaged around sixteen to eighteen views a day. That number seems monstrous in size nowadays.

So why have views declined ? The most logical theory is that people have noticed fewer updates and therefore have stopped visiting the site. Since all of my updates are viewable on my update page and people can subscribe, people simply have decided "Nothing new. Why look ?". That makes sense. But is that the real reason why people have stopped coming ? Perhaps everyone has seen the site once. Just once is all they need. Why ?

The reality is that my site is boring. People do not want to watch my YouTube videos. Why would they do that when they can see the videos that they want to see and search for on YouTube themselves ? Naturally, the purpose of posting my featured videos is to let viewers see which videos I have currently watched. But viewers do not care about that. I recently added a chatting and/or commenting channel via IRC. That was an extremely powerful addition to the site which would allow ANYONE to communicate with me at any time or would allow them to leave comments and/or criticism to my site. In addition to that, viewers who did not have IM clients could chat with one another using my site, if they were inexperienced with IM clients or IRC. Yet, since #WolfIRC's release, only one or two people have ventured into the channel. They left without even a word.

Is my site dead ? It appears so. But I do not want to think of it that way. I want to think of it as currently in recession. I want to bring it back to full functionality. Maybe I lack motivation without views. Well, that ends now. No views ? I will publish updates anyway. When I first made the site, no one looked. But the views snowballed eventually.

You might see radical changes soon. I refuse to say how fast. But I will promise that they will appear on the Updates page. Keep eyes open. That is all I ask. Updates continue with or without you now.

Thursday, 23 October 2008

Today marks the day of the initial implementation of IRC Chat to my website.

Do you see that post below this one ? The one that promises updates ?

Pretend that that post is this one.

IRC Chat is one of many new website additions coming soon due to new developing knowledge.

Tuesday, 16 September 2008 - Still Alive

Hello viewers. If you are reading this, you must be quite dedicated to my site to still look at it after three months of basic inactivity. My purpose in writing this News entry is to let viewers know that I am still planning on continuing to make regular updates to this site.

I have survived much in the past few months. Life took twists and turns that were unbearable. Now, however, I can concentrate. I can make free time for myself. I will write. I will post photos. I will change YouTube videos. I will record new WolfCast episodes. Two changes will be in effect today:

-"Books" section of the site will be deleted due to lack of interest and my lack of dedication. In addition, I enter and exit books so quickly that I lose track of how many books I began to read, which ones were completed, which ones have been purchased, etcetera. This section of the site is not necessarily permanently down, but I doubt it will be ressurrected. If you wish to know of my readings, ask me personally.

-The next episode of "The Afterlife" will be published at midnight on 28 September. Following that date, an episode will be released every other week (and almost always Saturday night), regularly. My main goal with this change is to avoid procrastination and episode delays. I also hope to get more 'regular' readers. Hoping for such readers with my current rate of posting is impossible.

I apologise for my lack of site activity, as always. Please forgive me. Check the "Updates" section often. You will find that I will be updating very frequently starting soon.

Saturday, 21 June 2008 - Significant Blogger Advances

I spent a bit of time looking more in-depth at the settings of Blogger. I found quite a few useful tools. So, tonight, I am introducing new features for all of my Blogger accounts*. I hope that viewers will use them. I am rather excited about them. Here they are:

  • Introduction of a fourth blog, The Unfinished Lives
  • New commenting capability: Now anyone can comment, with or without an account. Simply comment anonymously or put a name down using the "Name/URL" option
  • I am now notified of every comment someone makes on my blog via email. Before, I personally checked my blogs frequently to look for new comments. Now, all I have to do is check email.
  • I can put anyone who requests it on a mailing list to receive an email when I post a new blog entry. This eliminates readers' need to check my blogs to see if they are updated

I hope that with these new conveniences, I will begin to see more commenting on my blogs and more feedback for my writing. I am excited for these new abilities. Please stop by to put in a word or two.

*All Blogger accounts include: My personal Blog, RSS Wolf, The Afterlife, and The Unfinished Lives

Sunday, 15 June 2008 - Excuses

The past two months have been filled with ups and downs for me. Various distractions have kept me occupied and unable to update this site with regularity. I dislike posts about excuses, but I feel I owe the readers some explanation.

My first excuse is school. Towards the end of April and the beginning of May, school begins to become extremely crammed and straining. Multiple projects are given, sometimes multiple projects in one class. Tests become a once-a-week routine in most classes. Stress mounts, and I have little time for my own enjoyment, and even less for working on my site. This school year, I made quite a few friends that are fairly demanding in their wanting to spend time with me. This also takes away from the little time I have left after studying and doing assignments. Fencing practice also needs to be considered. That takes two hours two or three nights a week.  Little time, little posting. However, now it is summer. That means I should be able to start dedicating more time to this.

My second excuse is rather personal. I have experienced some relationship issues (and continue to deal with some strain). A few days have left me with no energy to do anything, and certainly not update my website. Some of these problems have caused me to feel more pain than I have ever felt in my entire life. On one occasion, I had planned to write an episode of The Afterlife but then I was thrown into such an emotional fit that I could not concentrate whatsoever and had to abandon the writing for the night. (Rest assured, if you are a reader of The Afterlife, you would not like the writing that would come out of my emotional state. I can only write personal entries about my emotions, and only when I can fully control and understand them). I am sure that I will continue to experience emotional conflicts for quite a while. I do hope that you will understand.

Thirdly, I have a job now. Several times a week, I must drive ten or fifteen minutes to another neighbourhood's pool. There, I sit and observe the things that happen and make sure that no one is breaking the rules or doing things that are unsafe. For nine dollars an hour, it is the best job anyone could have. The only problem is the boredom. I bring my laptop to work but I cannot concentrate on anything major such as writing episodes or changing YouTube videos. The most I can do is attempt to get onto the internet to chat with a friend or two to occupy myself in the dull moments.

Fourth, I have a new capability that I did not have until the sixth of June. I never really knew what it would be like for me to be able to drive. Now, I have my driver's license, and I can. Almost daily, I visit my dearest friend who is thankful for the food that I am able to make for her or bring to her. It is a nice feeling, knowing that you can go virtually anywhere at any time. I find myself going the same place every day, however, and spending full days there. Naturally, I do not work on my site while I am there.

Lastly, I will tell you about the most embarrassing of all excuses. I have been pulled into the wonderful yet strange phenomena known as Ouendan. There are two Nintendo DS games: Osu ! Tatakae ! Ouendan, and its sequel Moero ! Nekketsu Rhythm Damashii Osu ! Tatakae ! Ouendan 2 (both games are listed currently under the "My Games" section of my site). This game plays Japanese Pop songs and displays numbers on circles on the touch screen. The circles are tapped according to the beat of the song, in the order that the numbers are displayed. This style of gameplay is very addicting and the songs are great.  In addition to the DS version of the game, there is also a PC version simply called "Osu !". This is, in essence, the same game, played with a mouse rather than a touch screen. There are far more songs available and there is an online ranking system (this game is also shown in the "My Games" section of the site). Given the choice between doing things that are productive and playing Ouendan, I typically play Ouendan.

Now that my excuses are finished, I would like to make some announcements, of things you might expect to see in the near future. None of these are certain, but very possible:

  • A new WolfCast episode. A guest star. A controversial topic.
  • Comment functionality for this site, so that users may leave messages for me to see.
  •  New photographs for the "Photo Gallery"
  • A new section of the site dedicated to quotes

I hope that everyone is enjoying their summer. I never much cared for summer myself. I miss winter.

Monday, 21 April 2008 - The Afterlife Project Announced

Today, I am going to announce the creation of a new 'series', if you will. The Afterlife is the story of a boy who struggles to cope with the new world he is presented after his death. Meanwhile, things are changing on Earth. The main character struggles to come to terms with his new reality and what is happening to the people he used to know.

The first episode of The Afterlife will be released sometime on Friday, 25 April. I hope viewers will enjoy getting a taste of what my fiction writing is like. I have not written fiction in quite some time. I know that I will enjoy writing and reading it. Feedback will be appreciated upon its release.

When the first episode is released, The Afterlife will get its own section on my sidebar. It will be viewable via Blogger at this address: http://exitusvonwolf.blogspot.com

Sunday, 13 April 2008 - Featured YouTube Videos Statement

Words from Wolf:

Monday, 17 March 2008 - Announcements

Recently, all I have done is apologise to viewers. Here I am, doing it again.

My life as of late has been complicated by school, fencing, love, drama, socialising, and a new lifestyle that I cannot say I like. I have been left little time for updating this site or its branches, including "Daily YouTube Video", "Blog", and "WolfCast". These should be updated most frequently but I am constantly unable to meet the standards that I set for them. That is why some changes may occur.

Die Wörter von Wolf has received little comments recently. I have made some attempts to update, but lack of commenting is discouraging to those updates. The main purpose of this blog is to show others pieces of my life, but what is the point if no one reads them ? I encourage viewers to comment so that I know that my entries have been read. There is no other way to tell. If I continue to receive little feedback, it is possible that I will shut down the "Blog" section of my site entirely. If you like that section, please continue to comment in order to preserve it.

The "Daily YouTube Video" section of my site suffers because I cannot update it every night. So how is that Daily ? It is not. I need to develop a new system of updating this page. I could eliminate the section altogether or perhaps make a better effort to update. Updating takes only about a minute, but it is often harder than one might think to find a good video to use. I am open to suggestions about what I should do to the page.

Lastly, I will address some other miscellaneous things that are going to change or could change about the site:

  • "My Cat" is being eliminated as a page because I had it hosted via my .Mac account which has expired. I have yet to decide whether or not to replace it, but my current plans are to replace it with my cat's MySpace page until I can host the original page again. If I do host the original page again, it will come with a massive amount of updates.
  • I am considering the idea of moving my main quote on the "Home" page so that it is not at the top of the page and replacing it with a quote of choice that is appropriate for my mood. Do not be surprised if you see some moving around of quotes.
  • "YTMND Top Five" has generally failed as a page because I have been unable to discover any very significant YTMND pages that take the place of the five I have. Do not be surprised if you see some changes soon in YTMND page organisation on my site.
  • "Polls" is a page that has had some success but I encourage more users to vote in order for me to continue adding new ones. The current questions are supposed to be updated monthly, but I think that is going to change based upon votes. If the "Polls" page is a concern of yours, keep an eye open.
  • Expect more updates in "Photo Gallery" soon. And do not expect merely broken dishes.
  • I will announce the "Forecast" project today. I am currently working on a page that will give the Forecast of many major cities, including my home town, to anyone who views the page. This project will take time to complete, and I make no promises on a release. The usefulness of this page is my main concern, but it is a possible addition.

Tuesday, 08 January 2008 - MacBook is Mine

My MacBook came in last Thursday. I have since personalised it and I enjoy using it very much. There are several programmes that are good for editing. I can do audio and video chat using the built-in iSight camera. Everything is just easier and cleaner on a Mac. My desktop will remain my primary gaming computer, but my MacBook will be my portable computer and editing computer.

This is a screenshot of my Space for instant messaging:

To view an image of the laptop itself, look at the "My Computer(s)" page.

Tuesday, 25 December 2007 - Frohe Weihnachten !

Merry Christmas to all those readers who celebrate it. Christmas this year was not my favourite, but I received some nice gifts. The most notable are shown below:

2 GB DDR2 RAM

GeFORCE 8500 GT Graphics Card

Several assorted shirts and new gloves

In addition:

  • New fencing glove
  • New fencing bag
  • New journal
  • Various other clothing

The party last night went exceptionally well. But that can be read about on my Blog section.

Happy Holidays from Wolf

Saturday, 09 December 2007 - Cellular Phone Upgrade

I recently receive an upgrade of my cellular phone. It is a bit difficult to get used to the new buttons and layout, but I am learning. However, the best news is that I now have Bluetooth capability. In addition to the free phone I receive with a renewed contract, I also got a Bluetooth headset. I can now use the telephone while multitasking undisturbed. No more calls shall go ignored whilst my headset is placed in my ear. My only fear is radiation from extended wear.

Saturday, 17 November 2007 - Alpha Wolf Schröder Page Released

The Alpha page has been published. The site has been tentatively named "Wolf's Desk", coming from the clutter on the desk in which the page is designed. The site is a collection of things, as is the desk.

Main changes to the site are:

  • Bigger links
  • Some colour changes
  • An Updates page for additions to News, Books, Music, Etcetera

The Alpha release is not a significant step up but was announced to Facebook, MySpace, and my AIM profile. There are quite a few changes to be made in the coming weeks, and these changes, whether huge or subtle will be viewable in the "Updates" section of the site.

Main additions that are planned for the near future:

  • A "Comments" section for viewers to be able to post comments, with or without a Google Account
  • A way to organise the different sections of my site more aesthetically
  • A better "Home" hyperlink for my pages
  • A way for users to subscribe to my "Updates" page to be notified of them
  • Hyperlinks with colour

Help is much appreciated. Suggestions, solutions, etcetera, can be sent to my by any of the means shown in the Contact Information.

Saturday, 10 November 2007 - Beta Wolf Schröder Page Released

Today, this website was published. The reason this site was created was originally to make a site for contact information, but soon, the idea of having more functionality seemed appealing. Thanks to Google Pages, creating multiple links and uploading files for the public to view has been very simple. With time, I will learn more about html and will be able to make the site even better, but that is for the future.

After some improved functionality, the site will be officially released to Facebook, MySpace, and my AIM Profile on 17 November.
