Our Mock Trial and final Law Explorers meeting for the school year will be Wednesday, at 6pm in the Bennett Miller Room of the Vanderbilt Law School. (That's the same room we have met in the last few months, upstairs from the auditorium.) Parents are invited to attend. We anticipate this meeting will take a little longer than usual, but we should be done by 7:30pm.
If you missed the last meeting, no worries—we have open spots for witnesses where you can read from the script. We will take the first 20 minutes to help plaintiff's team and defendant's team prepare and plan their testimony. If you need to review the packet, you can read it and download it here. If you want to come "dressed for court," you are welcome to do so, but it's not required. |

We enjoyed meeting most of you at our orientation meeting last month, and look forward to exploring legal careers with you. For anyone who missed some or all of that first meeting, you can catch up on what we talked about by viewing the presentation online.
Our first real meeting will be next week, Tuesday, November 16, at 6:00pm. We will be in the Moore Room of the law school, which is upstairs from where we met last time. Don't worry—we will post signs directing you where to go. There is ample seating in the lounge outside the classrooms for parents during the class session if parents wish to stay.

It seems hard to believe, but our last Law Explorers meeting will be next week, on Wednesday, April 13, from 6pm to 7:30 pm. We'll be in the Flynn Auditorium of the Vanderbilt Law School, just like we usually were in the past. Family and friends are invited to attend the exciting criminal trial of Max Paulson for reckless driving. The students will be playing the roles of the witnesses and the lawyers, and it's going to be entertaining. Students are invited to dress the part and get into their roles, though it's certainly not required.
If you weren't there last time, you can still review the Mock Trial problem and come—we have a few open parts, including spots on the "jury." If you have any questions about the Mock Trial, email us and we'll answer them and provide a few pointers. |

As Nashville is finally thawing out, we have rescheduled our January meeting for Wednesday, January 19 at 6pm. Due to scheduling conflicts at the law school, we will meet in the Bartholomew Room, which is around the corner from the Flynn Auditorium where we usually meet. It's a smaller room, but we were lucky to get it. To get to the Bartholomew Room, enter in the main entrance, walk past the reception desk, and go down the hallway to the right. The Bartholomew Room is at the end on the right. (See map below.) We will post signs so you won't get lost. So unless Davidson County cancels school again on Wednesday, we will see you all then!

After our long break from Law Explorers over the holidays, we will be back next week to learn about contracts and statutes. That probably doesn't sound as exciting as our mock trial in December, but I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. This is probably the most useful class we teach, and you'll use these skills when you sign your first rental lease, get your first credit card, or buy your first car. And we'll practice our contract-reading skills on some contracts you probably already use today, like the terms of service for Facebook, MySpace, and YouTube.
Our Law Explorers meeting will be Wednesday, January 12, at 6pm in the usual location, the Flynn Auditorium of the Vanderbilt Law School. It would probably help to bring something to write with, but most of all, come ready to learn. |

Law Explorers will have their first chance to put their skills in action this Wednesday, as we hold a mini mock trial. We will meet in Flynn Auditorium of the Vanderbilt Law School at 6 pm, and the meeting should last about an hour and a half. The scenario involves marijuana possession in a high school. Students who did not receive the information packet can download it here in PDF. Parents are invited to observe. This will be our last meeting for the calendar year, due to law school finals and the holiday break. We will meet again in January. |

For this month's class we will practice reading contracts and statutes,
and introduce the mini mock trial scenario for our meeting on December
1. Along the way we will discuss some of the various career paths
lawyers can take. It may be helpful to bring a pen/pencil and paper, but
it is not required. Come ready to learn and talk over new ideas!
