True North Media House Overview & FAQ
What: True North Media House is media creation facility with production resources and collaborative space for arts, cultural and educational activities during February and March 2010. True North Media House is a media collaboration campaign to encourage social coverage of the winter sports and cultural events during February-March 2010 in Vancouver, Canada while ensuring civil liberties (and having a good time). What do you plan to do? We intend to create a space in downtown Vancouver to serve as a media resource centre with high-speed internet, audio and video production facilities, green screen and interview space, press conference space and workstations.Slogan: "Pressers by day, Soirees by Night (and Production all night long)" Who's behind this?: This project was launched by a group of media makers who covered the past several Olympic Games as un-accredited media. The organization has grown into a extensive group of volunteers from various industries and bringing diverse skills and motivations to the project. Indeed, we think Vancouver is a hub for new web technologies and companies at the forefront of changing media. This new media community was rallied together by experienced un-accredited Olympic reporters who have covered Olympics Games and published many dispatches to major outlets and Olympic research papers. Who's paying for it? The organizing committee of the True North Media House is actively soliciting sponsorship to help pay for the required expenses, and volunteers to assist in the running of the facility. Can my company sponsor? Yes! For more information about our sponsorship needs and opportunities, please see the Sponsor Overview for more info. How can I get involved? Contact: info@truenorthmediahouse.com Visit the Wiki: http://sites.google.com/site/vancouver2010alternativemedia/ Join the Mailing List: Follow on Twitter: @TNMH Who do I contact for an interview, media quote or speaker to my event? What about the IOC and VANOC? The organizers of the True North Media House have actively invited and requested participation from members of the IOC and VANOC via online Open Letters with an offer to assist in creating a social media component to up-coming Winter Olympic Games and continued the public dialouge at the Northern Voice conference with a panel called "Social Media and the Olympics: then and now" which VANOC declined to attend. We remain open to discussion with the IOC and VANOC and are not affiliated with them, nor are we working at cross-purposes to the accredited VANOC media centre. Are you protesters or pro/anti Olympics? As an organizations, TNMH is neither for, or against, the Olympics. We are a group of citizen reporters, media makers, producers, artists, civil libertarians and documentarians interested in covering aspects of the international sporting events taking place in Vancouver/Whistler in 2010 including the arts and cultural events, the ParaOlympic events. What goes on at your meetings? Just sorting out tasks. All meeting notes and minutes are stored at the wiki as possible. You can come along, just ask. Who will be allowed to use the space? This "House" will provide resources to citizen reporters publishing media to an audience and also provide space for organizations - from sports teams to community groups - to hold press conferences to media covering the events for hometown newspapers, topical blogs or webzines, or major news outlets. Why is this important? We feel the effort will provide coverage of civic issues as well as arts, culture, and the media coverage itself as well as the impact and issues resulting in the civic space from the influx of attention and capital from around the world. This project will enhance the quality of Olympic coverage outside of the venues. Working from the True North Media House, storytellers can collaboratively capture and sharing content, organize photo walks to explore Vancouver area sights, and cover protests and other security situations.
