Inversions Dancer Bios

 

Valerie Brock

Valerie is a senior Biology major.  She has been with Inversions since her freshman year and has been dancing for 9 years.  She has always enjoyed modern dance and loves choreographing for and dancing with Inversions.  She is well known for creating the move entitled, "The Hip Dance" and likes to lift other people.

 


 

Lauren Tuttle

Lauren is a senior Environmental Science major.  This is her third year dancing with Inversions and has been doing modern dance since middle school.

 

 

 

 Emily Schrag

Emily is a Senior Management and Society major.  She has been in Inversions for 4 fabulous years.  She started dancing in the womb, but officially began her dance career through dancing in the Wake County Public School system.  She danced at Hunter Elementary School, at Martin Middle School with the beloved Cindy Hoban, and in the esteemed Modern Dance Program at Enloe High School.  She is insanely proud of how much Inversions has grown over the past four years!

 

 

 

Meredith Spivey

Meredith is a senior Spanish and Psychology double major from Raleigh. She's been dancing since she was six and she's spent most of her dance career between ballet and modern, but has recently fallen in love with Spanish flamenco.  This is her fourth year in Inversions.




Maria Jovanovic

Maria is a senior from Raleigh who is double majoring in Biology and Spanish.  She has been dancing since she was 4 years old, and has experience with tap, ballet, jazz, and modern. This is her third year with Inversions. 

 

 

 

Amanda Franklin

Amanda Franklin is a senior studying Media Production and History.  She likes doing tricks.

 

 

 

Alexis Pylypiw

Alexis is a Junior Psychology major from Swansboro, North Carolina. She was trained in ballet, jazz and modern at Swansboro Dance Studio. She has been dancing for 18 years. Alexis has been with Inversions since her freshman year. 

 

 

 

 

Jeanne Vodicka

Jeanne is a Junior Nursing school student who has been dancing since she was potty trained. She has stuck with modern most of her life but has also taken ballet. She danced at Arts Together in Raleigh, NC with the Rainbow DC and at her middle and high school. 

 

 

 

Abbey Schell

Abbey has been modern dancing in school for years upon years.  She is a sophomore philosophy major and has been with Inversions since her freshman year.

 

 

 

Sydney DuPre

Sydney has been dancing since age three.  She began at Arts Together in Raleigh, North Carolina, and was a member of the Rainbow Dance Company for eight years.  She has been with Inversions for two years.  Sydney is currently studying abroad in Cape Town, South Africa, but is looking forward to another semester with Inversions in the Spring. 

 

 

 

 Caroline Long

Caroline Long is a Sophomore and is a member of both Invesions and Blank Canvas.  She is a drama major with a focus in costumes.  She has been dancing since she was four and doing modern since middle school. 



 

Gabriela Magallenes

Gabriela is a freshman from Raleigh, North Carolina.  She has been dancing for 8 years and was a member of Broughton’s Dance Company in high school.  She has experienced jazz and hip- hop but her passion is modern.  Her major is nursing and looks forward to continue dancing with Inversions in the next 3 years.  “When I dance, everything I feel comes out.” –Han Nolan

 

 

 

 

Audrey Whetten

Audrey is a sophomore from Raleigh, NC who has been dancing since she was four years old. She danced at Enloe High School and with Arts Together's modern dance company in Raleigh before coming to UNC. She is so happy to be able to continue dancing here, and is excited to be a part of Inversions.  

 




 Amanda Modica

Amanda loves all types of dance, but her two favorites are modern and tap.  She has been dancing since she was four years old, and she started modern dancing during high school.  She is a sophomore nutrition major and is also involved with Dance Marathon.

 

 

 

 

Harris Googe

Harris is a freshman Business/Economics and German double-major from Knoxville, TN. She was trained in classical ballet, modern, and jazz at Studio Arts for Dancers since the age of 3 and was a founding member of Go! Contemporary Dance Works. She's so excited to be a part of this wonderful group! 

 

 

 

 

 Colleen Volz

Colleen is enjoying her freshman year at UNC as a prospective journalism major. She has been dancing for 9 years in all areas of dance including modern, ballet, jazz, and tap. Colleen also participated in Governor's school for dance in 2007 and was a member of the Enloe Dance Ensemble her senior year of high school. Colleen looks forward to her next four years in Inversions and continuing her love for modern dance!

 

 

 

 

 

 Colleen Young

Colleen Young is a freshman International Affairs major. She is from Asheville, NC and has been dancing for thirteen years. Until this year her focus in dance has been ballet and jazz. 





Jenni Wiser

Jenni is a senior Political Science and International Studies Major at Carolina. She has been dancing since the age of five and along with being a member of Inversions is also a member of Carolina Style Ballet and Jazz. She loves to dance and has had so much fun with inversions this year!

 

 

 

Sydney Hartsell

Sydney Hartsell is a freshman enjoying her first semester with Inversions. She began dancing as soon as she could walk and trained with Children's Dance Theater in Salt Lake City, Utah. Sydney has had the most experience with modern but loves all styles of dance, from jazz to African. She finds her passion in dance because there are no limits or restrictions on the feelings and ideas that movement can express.
