Direct Conversion Receiver for CW.

I always wanted to build a simple Direct Conversion receiver. I started looking around for ideas on the different parts of this receiver.

BANDPASS FILTER > MIXER > AUDIO PREAMP > AUDIO AMPLIFIER

                            LOCAL

                          OSCILLATOR

The bandpass filter is very simple. The mixer is going to be a Doubly Balanced Mixer Diode mixer. Many people prefer a NE602 or Dual Gate FET design. I personally, like to build stuff that has parts that are discrete :)

The oscillator is a simple Hartley FET VFO.I dont like VXO's because then i need lot of them to cover any particular portion of the band.

Audio stage is simple 2n3904 preamp and a LM386 audio amplifier.I swayed away from my "discreteness" mainly due to the laziness factor.

UPDATE: I got some NE602's after some searching up(they are getting hard-to-find) and boy, are they fun to play with!

So after some thought, I reverted back to a common simple NE602-LM386 receiver.

A receiver cant get any simpler.

The design I used is the Neophyte Receiver (Google it, you can download the article from ARRL website). It is really simple and the oscillator uses the internal built colpitts in the '602. All you need to do is supply the capacitor divider network and LC.

DSB TRANSMITTER

Well, when I was testing around with the ne602's, I built a lm386-ne602 dsb generator! Really fun, haven't been on air with it. Just testing it.
