Cruise Control

Update:  The Autiovox CCS-100 are more difficult to obtain. The Rostra Precision Controls 250-1223 available from Summit racing is another option.

Advantages of the Audiovox Cruise Control CCS-100

1 - Small control unit can be mounted on tthe inside passenger firewall to keep the engine bay un-obstructed.

2 - The system does not require a magnetic pickup if using a manual transmission.  The system senses engine speed off the tack signal (negative side of the coil).  The magnetic pickup can still be used if desired.

3 - Electrical connections can all be made inside the car, which again keeps the installation clean.

4 - The Audiovox system is inexpensive and can be found for under $100.

5 – Unit can be configured to use your own dash or steering column mounted interface switches.

To get the system to work in my installation, one modification needed to be made was the DIP switch settings on the control.  The manual recommends setting the DIP switches to 4000 pulses per mile.  This setting will not allow speed control above 40 MPH.  Setting the DIP switches to 8000 pulses per mile provides excellent speed control across all normal driving speeds.  The manual must have been written for a 4-cylinder car.  I am using a Pertronix ignition, which may have something to do with the different settings from the manual.
