i'm currently playing with microcontrollers.

27/05/2009 Since the progress with the PIC24 i've decided to go ahead and start taking this project from pipe dream to reality, from now progress here will mostly be made on this page  8x8x8 RGB LED project.

Multiplexing and the TLC5940

20/05/2009 So after my multiplexing tests, i think i'd like to play with a micro controller a little more powerful then the AVR. The ATmega1281 is the most powerful AVR I can get my hands on and I feel I just won't be able to squeeze the frame rate i'll need to multiplex 8 layers of cube. I've investigated a few alternatives, including AVR32, the Xmega series and ARM chips, they're all good options, but as far as availability and ease of transition, I've decided to have a play with the microchip PIC24. It was recommended to me by someone and after some investigation, i think it could be the business! For one, it is a 16 bit processor, not 8 bit, and secondly it runs at a healthy 40MHz, unlike the 16MHz AVRs. So i've bought my self a PIC KIT 2 and a couple of PIC24 chips to play with and i'm currently learning how to program them.

01/05/2009 For my 8x8x8 project I have performed a ET_AVR_1281_transplant  .

8x8x8_RGB_Pipedream   as it sounds, is what i would like to eventually make. I have a lot of learning to do, so I will be putting updates and thoughts onto this page as my dream progresses.

RGB_LED_x_3.

April 2009: RGB LED x 3  atmega16 controlled 3 RGB LEDs. Now converted to be drawn by an interrupt routine from a pattern array. Youtube video here.

March 2009: 4x4x4 cube is my first microcontroller project, taken from this site  http://www.instructables.com/id/LED-Cube-4x4x4/ .   Youtube video here.
