What goes on at a UU Service?
Our order of service follows a fairly traditional pattern, and consists of readings, hymns, a children's story, the sharing of joys and concerns, meditation, and a sermon or talk on a religious or ethical topic.  Occasionally, we have innovative services that call for congregational participation such as dancing, conversation, drumming or other types of activities. While the services usually follow a format, the subjects are quite varied. It takes several visits to get the flavor of who and what we are. All our services have a helping of "community." The community part is continued afterward in our coffee room, and from time to time with lunch gatherings.

What should I wear?: There is no dress code at UUFC. We are far more interested in you than your fashion sense. Wear what you feel comfortable in. There will probably be no "coats and ties" and there may be some walking shorts. Our Fellowship is a mostly casual place. Children, especially the youngest ones, should be dressed for comfort. Infants, toddlers and preschoolers often have playtime on our outdoor playground, so they should be dressed to play!

What about children?: We like them, bring yours to the service and let them meet ours. Children join the adults for the first part of the service and then go out to their Religious Exploration classes. Parents are welcome to walk their children and to stay with them to help them adjust.

If my child doesn't separate well, can she or he stay with me in the service?: We always welcome children to stay for the entire service. Please be aware though that the service is generally geared for an adult audience and some children may not be interested in the topics.

Who are you UU's?: UU's are individuals who generally come from Judeo-Christian backgrounds and have found their inherited churches and faiths not fitting their experience and thinking. We are Theists, Buddhists, Humanists, Pantheists, and a good number of other "ists," in our churches and in ourselves. We are all looking for truth, meaning, and understanding in this life, and share the search with our Fellowship.

Who's welcome? Everyone; come as you are and we well meet you as we are. Everyone is welcome. We hope you visit and we hope your visit encourages you to share your journey with us. We are an open community. We encourage and support people from different ethnic and religious backgrounds to join us for worship on Sunday mornings.

Are there bisexual, gay, lesbian and transgender people in this congregation? Are they welcome?: Our congregation affirms and promotes the inherent worth and dignity of every human being. There are gay, lesbian, bisexual and heterosexual people in our congregation.

What do UU's believe?  Sometimes non-UU's claim that UU's can believe anything and don't have to believe in anything. That is not true. Our fellowship affirms and promotes the individual's search for truth and meaning. We do believe it is each individual's responsibility to figure out what is true for themselves, what ideas they can put their faith in, and what kind of life they want to live. All we ask that is that you feel comfortable conducting you own search for truth and faith and meaning within the guidelines of the Seven Unitarian Universalist Principles.

How many members do you have and how long have you been in Clarksville?  Currently there are about 40 members and about that many Friends of the Fellowship - as we call those who are allied with the Fellowship but have not signed the membership book. More information is in our history page.

Directions:  Go to the intersection of Madision and Highway 76 by the KMart and Walmart Stores. From there go two miles east on 41A. Go past the traffic signal at Excell/Old Farmer's Road and about 3/4 of a mile on the right will be our sign. The building is a converted house sitting back from the road, with parking in the front.
