Bylaws Revision

1.      12 extra pages

2.      Written to override the previous bylaws by amending them

Overview of the new officers

Meetings will be held 3rd week of each month at a location to be decided

Nov 18 Guest Speaker

1.      Guest is the District 19- Bountiful Rep. worked on HB 187

2.      Will talk about the future of river access in Utah

3.      Location to be determined

4.      All are welcome

Beginner Series

1.      Different Format

a.       Local Rivers sooner

b.      Provide some equipment

                                                              i.      Loaner gear

                                                            ii.      Rental equipment from the U

                                                          iii.      Spray Skirts – hard to come by

c.       Get disc on how to roll

d.      Have homework

e.       Get books by William Kneely

2.      At a pool from 6-9

a.       1st hour is for newbie instruction

b.      Hours 2-3 for members or guests that are charged something to be determined

3.      Have ACA member instructors 4 or so

a.       Volunteers to be ACA certified

b.      Look into costs for the club to certify the instructors

c.       Overlap with other schools for students to catch up missed classes

d.      Look into certifications other than ACA

4.      Have the ability to make up classes if missed

5.      Class size 15-20

Trip Planning

1.      Team up with Wasatch Mtn Club for bigger groups and raft support on bigger trips

2.      Figure out system to keep people in check to see if they will be getting in over their heads on certain trips

3.      Have different levels of trips Newbs and Intermediates to Advanced

Membership discounts

1.      Cold Water – 10% off new merchandise

2.      Cyn Sports – 10%

3.      Peak UK – 20% maybe 30% if we buy enough

4.      Sid Sports – 10% might have to be slightly aggressive and remind him about the discount

5.      American Whitewater – only $25 to be a member, but most people are encouraged to give more for all of the added benefits and work that AW accomplishes

Classes and clinics for members

1.      CPR classes – sometimes provided free by Red Cross if enough interest

2.      Swiftwater courses

3.      Boat outfitting clinic/parties

4.      Other classes to be determined by the voting body

Fund Raisers

1.      Nalgenes with UWC logos and first aid kits inside

2.      Stickers

3.      T-shirts

4.      Sweet UWC schwag

5.      Posters in sports shops

6.      Have actual sign up sheets in the shops so people can join at stores

Vertical Challenge

1.      2 official teams

2.      Focus on fundraising aspect – vertical feet looks good but they actually need money

3.      Educate ourselves and the public on who the actual people we are helping are

Meeting Minutes (Election meeting September 24)

Proposal for the new organization for the UWC

1.      President

2.      Vice President

3.      Secretary

4.      Treasurer

5.      3 Board members

History of the old club

1.      10 board members

a.       The 10 board members then decide the positions

b.      President and Treasurer cannot be the same person

2.      In January the 10 board members are supposed to be elected

3.      In Feb the 10 newly elected board members pick the officers

4.      New board should be elected every year

5.      Hasn’t happened last few years

Bylaws can be changed by the voting group

Articles of incorporation are filed with the state

There were 10 board members 3 years ago, now who knows

The club needs division for going on trips-aka different levels of difficulty

Club suggestions and complaints

1.      Club this year only trained newbies

2.      Didn’t do anything new this year

3.      People want the club to give them opportunities to get stronger

4.      A committee should be assembled to pursue whitewater features to get a higher quality of playing in Utah

5.      Have a classes that take you from whatever level you are at to the next level

6.      Have club pay back ACA for training if you teach for 2 years or so

7.      People have to stay committed to the trips they plan

8.      Have a system of accountability

Suggestions for what the officers in the new organization should do

1.      President - heads up the organization

2.      Vice President – assists the president

3.      Treasurer – takes the money and controls the bank, and assists the secretary

4.      Secretary – in charge of membership and assists the secretary

5.      Board Members – duties as assigned by the voting body

6.      All officers will have duties as assigned by the voting body

Instructions for voting from eddyflower.com

1.      - Vote once or each officer and three board members

2.      - Post your vote to the following email address: UWCelections@yahoo.com

3.      - Include your real first and last name in with your vote

4.      - Households: everyone gets a vote, but maybe not your five year old. Let's make the cut off at the driving age. If you can legally drive, even with a learner's permit, you have a vote.

5.      - The voting will be end at 7 PM on Wednesday, September 30th.

6.      Edit - you must be a UWC member to cast a vote.

7.      This is a first for this process and there may be glitches. If you have reason to believe that your vote did not go through post up a note on this thread or respond to the UWC email posting that will go out shortly. Someone will be back in touch with you.
