"C. Ray Hampton, radioman, recalled a rowboat approaching the yacht as it was anchored off the Bahamas. "Whenever we were anchored, we always had a Chris-Craft circling the ship with two armed men, a Secret Service man and a sailor. I was taking a message for the president to the officer's quarter when I notieced the boat approaching. The Secret Service man was hollering in a megaphone, 'Kindly stay clear, the president of the United States is aboard.' The president came out on deck and said, "What does he want? Have him come alongside and let's see what he wants.' The man, a lighthouse keeper, said his wife had just delivered a baby. Their supply ship was late, he said, and they'd run out of milk. The president said, 'Give him any food he needs out of my box, including all the milk.'"
