ATTENTION ALL HANDS:

0930 - Saturday, 16 JAN 2009

Sacramento Fire Department - Station 11

785 Florin Rd.

Sacramento, CA
Uniform: Dress Blue

Plan to join us in providing important safety information to our community.

This MLK Day of Service project is a National Service Initiative of the American Red Cross in collaboration with Hope Worldwide. The goal of this project is to advance preparedness in local communities by door-to-door canvassing with fire safety and prevention information. Volunteers will go door-to-door to talk to community residents about fire safety and hand out a fire safety door hanger. This door hanger has information about smoke alarms, creating an escape plan and how to cook and heat a home safely this winter.

This program was implemented in 2008, with 10 cities. The largest participating group is in Boston with over 555 volunteers visiting 20,000 households. This year there are 44 cities participating. As the program grows nationwide, we want to expand the program within each city. This year the goal of the initiative is to include government and community partners such the Sacramento Fire Department.

Our goal this year is to include 60 volunteers and canvass 1,000 households. Our local Red Cross Chapter and the local Hope Worldwide Chapter have about 30 volunteers enlisted so far. We hope that you are interested in adding to those numbers.

The actual day for the canvassing is Saturday, January 16th.  We will have a big kick off at Station 11, 785 Florin Rd. and Havenside, Sacramento, CA 95831 .

We are excited about collaborating with you on this project and hope you can confirm your participation as soon as possible.

This event is eligible for the Disney day of volunteering program.
