The purpose of this tutorial is to create your 'portfolio' site and get you acquainted with Google Sites.
1. Go to sites.google.com. If you don't have a Google account, create one by choosing 'Sign in with a Google Apps Account' in the bottom right corner. 2. Once signed in, click on "Create New Site" to create a new site and name it something like: <your name>'s Computer Science Portfolio with your name in place of <your name>. This portfolio page is where you'll add text and links concerning the things you learn and create in this class. 3. On your new site, create a new page and add some profile information for yourself. Provide the following information:
4. Add a link to your profile in the navigation bar. You can do this by clicking on the Edit Sidebar button below the sidebar. 5. Change the appearance of your site. Select Site Settings | Change Appearance from the top menu. You can then change the color scheme, the logo, and the navigation bar. Your USF accounts have access to a Photoshop-like program called Fireworks. You can you use that to create a logo. 6. Create another new page on your site and play around with adding: An embedded YouTube clip A calendar (create one if you don't have one) An RSS feed to your blog or a blog you're interested in. You can do all of these things by choosing 'Insert' from the top menu. Refer to the Google Sites Help page for help. If you don't have a picture of yourself on the web, ask your instructor-- he has access to the images on the visual class list. |
