AboutCoast Guard Intelink/Social Media Meetup at Innovation Expo 2008 will provide an opportunity for Coast Guard personnel to gather to discuss social media tools and to learn from each other. This session is open to all interested Coasties. Participants of all experience levels are encouraged to attend. Coasties interested in media/public/governmental/stakeholder relations, knowledge management, organizational communications, and leadership will all find something of value at this Meet-up. AgendaIntroductionsParticipants will have an opportunity to introduce themselves and discuss their online social media initiatives. This will be a roundtable session, allowing each participant to talk about their work and their successes and challenges. Participants are requested to prepare their talking points ahead of time and to keep their presentations to 5 minutes or less. Benjamin M. Strong, Director of Marketing for Amver Maritime Relations in Manhattan, will facilitate this session. Ben is a propenent of using social media for official activities. In addition to a standard web site, Ben blogs and and micro-blogs; his tools of the trade are Blogger and Twitter. Commandant's Social Media philosophyLCDR Tony Russell, a member of the Commandant's staff, will discuss the Commandant's Social Media philosophy and would like to get some feedback on what the Coast Guard has done so far and what we could/should be doing.
The Blogging PhenomenonA facilitated discussion about blogging as it applies to the Coast Guard, with particular focus on very-recent policies and practices.
This session will be led by Chief Petty Officer Paul Roszkowski who is on the staff of the D13 public affairs staff. Chief Roszkowski has been leading the Coast Guard's public affairs field network in using the social media tools to better connect with stakeholders and the public at large. Using Intelink-UPresentation overview of the tools on Intelink-U and possible uses. Will highlight proven practices and lessons learned with the goal of encouraging the use of this available toolset. John Massingill, a civilian multi-mission controller at the Sector Hampton Roads Command Center and a commissioned Reserve officer assigned to the Atlantic Area Intelligence Staff, will lead this presentation perhaps using this outline or something similar. Brief on upcoming Knowledge Management conferencesDr. George Yacus, of the Atlantic Area staff, will provide a brief overview of the Coast Guard KM Summit planned for February 2009 in Houston. Additional information about the CG KM Summit can be found here. Peter Stinson of the Atlantic Area staff, will provide a brief overview of APQC's 14th Knowledge Management Conference and Training, The Knowledge Transfer Revolution: New Paradigms, New Payoffs which will be held in May 2009 in Houston. Also will provide a very brief overview of a new course from APQC: Enterprise and Web 2.0 Tools for Knowledge Management Workshop. The future inside the CGDNThe future is bright inside the CGDN. Or at least we can see the light at the end of the tunnel. The CG-6 is about to pull the plug on CGCentral, creating a portal which will serve those both in and outside CGDN in terms of content and abilities. This brief session will highlight the CGPortal project and seek volunteers to serve in a pilot program using the tools which will soon be dropped in on the entire Coast Guard.
