Robert Gilmore teaches Introduction to Music at the University of South Alabama. In addition, Mr. Gilmore teaches applied woodwinds at the University of Mobile and has a private studio for instrumental music education in Diamondhead, Mississippi.
He holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Southern Mississippi, a Master of Music Education degree from Mississippi State University, and Doctoral studies in Curriculum and Instruction and Music Education at Mississippi State University.
Prior to joining the music faculty at USA, Mr. Gilmore taught in public and private schools for ten years. Also, he was chosen as a staff member of the Mississippi Lions All-State Band for six consecutive years. During his graduate studies, he taught four years as a graduate assistant in music education. In addition to his academic pursuits, Mr. Gilmore was assistant to the editor of the Mississippi Music Educator, conducted low brass master classes, and taught undergraduate instrumental education methods classes. His primary duties included music arranging, drill writing, and assisting with instruction of both the marching and concert bands, as well as working as the marching percussion coordinator at Mississippi State University.
He remains active in the Mississippi Bandmasters Association; the Gulf Coast Band Director’s Association, the Percussive Arts Society, and Omicron Delta Kappa
