The USA Jazz Ensemble is a complete big band, open to students by audition from all majors on the University campus. The Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Dr. Tracy Heavner, focuses on jazz literature, performance, and improvisation. In addition, jazz combos are developed from within the ensemble. Auditions on sax, trumpet, trombone, guitar, string bass, and drum set are held at the beginning of each semester. Members of the Jazz Ensemble register for "Jazz Band" (MUO 121/421), a 1-credit-hour course.
