 The University of South Alabama Jaguar Marching Band is now auditioning high school seniors for the 2012 season. Students must be fully admitted to the University of South Alabama in order to audition. Membership is open by audition to all full-time students at the University of South Alabama, and students do not have to major or minor in music in order to participate in the Jaguar Marching Band. Current USA students, high school seniors, and students transferring to USA should then schedule an audition with the Director, Dr. Ward Miller. The Department of Music hears auditions for wind players throughout the school year. All students who are admitted will be awarded a scholarship. There are four official audition dates on the USA campus this Spring:

 Registration Deadlines and Printable Registration Forms
some directors have indicated to us that their packets were lost in the mail and did not arrive at their schools. A printable registration packet can be found here for students. If you're afraid that your registration and payment will arrive late, don't worry. Simply call us at (251) 460-6136 and inform us of your intent to join us this Saturday, November 19. You can bring the registration forms and payment with you that day.

Tickets for Friends and Family
Friends and family of honor band participants who wish to purchase tickets with a great vantage point of the performance should download the special ticket package order form.

 The high school students will also sit and perform in the stands with the Jaguar Marching Band during the first half of the game. Once halftime is concluded, they will depart the game for check-out on the USA campus.
"We're so excited to have this incredible turn-out for this year's Marching Honor Band," said Dr. Ward Miller, USA's Director of Athletic Bands. "We had over 500 applicants, and they were of excellent quality across the board."

 "Because of their homecoming ceremonies, we will be unable to perform on the field during halftime at this game," said Ward Miller, Director of Athletic Bands. We want all Jag fans to come on into the Dome about 30 minutes before kick-off so that they can support the band. Our students and staff are very excited to be performing in such a beautiful facility, and we look forward to supporting our team on the road."
This is the first true "away" game to which the Jaguar Marching Band has traveled in the three-year history of the football and marching band programs. Kick off is at 3:00 PM, Eastern time. |
"We're very excited and thankful for the opportunity to perform for the pre-game ceremony in Opelika," said Ward Miller, USA's Director of Athletic Bands. "We have a great relationship with the directors from both schools, and it's a wonderful opportunity to showcase the University of South Alabama in front of two of this state's finest band programs."

 Saturday, October 15 (Homecoming - JAGS vs. UT-Martin)

 This is just one of six exhibition performance the Jaguar Marching Band is performing in the 2011-2012 season. Already, the Jag Drum Line performed at the North Florida Day of Percussion held at Escambia High School (FL), and the marching band performed in exhibition at competitions at Rehobeth and Daleville High Schools on September 24. The band will perform at the Theodore High School "Deep South" competition October 29 and the Tate High School (FL) "Showcase of Champions" on November 5. All of the marching exhibitions will feature the Jaguar Marching Band's 2011 Latin halftime production, as well as additional show and stand tunes and drum cadences. We invite members of the attending bands, their friends and families, and local marching band fans to catch the Jaguar Marching Band live at these performances! |
The day will begin with the Jag Drum Line performing a clinic at the Northwest Florida Day of Percussion, to be held at Escambia High School in Pensacola. Providing an exciting educational opportunity for the hundreds of high school students in attendance, the Jag Drum Line will demonstrate multiple techniques to improve stick control and sound production as they perform exercises, cadences, and half-time features from this season.
The drum line will join the rest of the Jaguar Marching Band for an exhibition at the first ever marching band festival being held at Rehobeth High School (Rehobeth, AL). The festival will host 16 high school marching bands performing for an adjudicating panel. The exhibition begins at 4:00 PM.
The day's activities will conclude when the Jaguar Marching Band performs in exhibition at 8:30 PM in the Daleville Invitational Marching Band Festival. The Jag Band performed there in the 2010 season, and returns this year to play and march in front of the 17 high school bands in attendance.

"Many high school band directors have asked us to extend the deadline, as they want to give more of their students a chance to apply," said Ward Miller, the University of South Alabama Associate Director of Bands. "We're happy to do it, as we always enjoy partnering with our fellow music educators who, like us, enjoy a large applicant pool. It allows us to be more selective with who we invite to the honor band."

"We're very pleased with the initial response," said Ward Miller, USA's Director of Athletic Bands. "As with all of our marching band activities, we're interested in not just in quantity, but quality. And the detailed applications we get from these students - listing of musical achievements and a writing sample - tell us that these first 100 applicants are extremely motivated students and musicians."
