2011 Brass Chamber Music Honors Festival

It is with great excitement that we proudly announce the second annual University of South Alabama Brass Chamber Music Honors Festival. This event will take place on our campus in historic Mobile on Friday through Sunday, April 1-3, 2011. We are pleased to welcome our special guest artists Rhythm and Brass, who will perform at the festival and provide coaching and masterclasses to the student participants.

The USA Brass Chamber Music Honors Festival is open to high school students in grades 9-12 who play trumpet, horn, trombone, euphonium, and tuba. Student participants will be selected by recorded audition. Recordings may be submitted in a variety of formats, including mailed cassette tape or CD, or e-mailed in MP3 format to rwmiller@jaguar1.usouthal.edu. In addition, students may submit their audition on video via VHS, DVD, or YouTube. Recorded auditions are due no later than Monday, March 21, 2011.

Students selected for the Festival will participate in a variety of brass chamber music experiences, including a mass brass choir, brass quintet, trumpet ensemble, trombone choir, horn choir, or tuba-euphonium ensemble. Students will sight-read for USA faculty on the first evening of the festival to determine ensemble and part placement.

Rhythm and Brass will perform their gala concert at 7:30 PM on Saturday, April 2; and the grand finale of the USA Brass Chamber Music Honors Festival will be a concert by the student participants on Sunday, April 3 at 1:00 PM. All performances will be open to the public.

We welcome the best and brightest brass players to apply for this unique opportunity. All students selected for this event will be responsible for their own lodging, breakfasts, and lunches (two dinners will be provided). There is no cost for participation, as selection to the festival is an honor.  Students will receive a festival t-shirt, a medal, and a top-notch musical experience with one of the finest professional ensembles in the world.
