Governance at Uplift is an indispensable part of the Mutuals programme. While the Board of Uplift has been the guiding force behind Uplift's evolution - democratic structures with community representation has been the untiring effort of Mutual Operations.
Community Governance
The Community Governance design of Uplift comes from its flagship programme of community owned Mutuals that have been since inception, the dynamic force behind the growth of the model. There are two principal features of this community governance which determine the strength of the model- that community decides on the benefits (in this case the fund money for health incidents) and that they are legally parties to these benefits (Co- signatories of the fund kept physically in a Bank). There has been a continuous capacity building programme for these community representatives for the past few years.
In the AGM for 2008-2009 a landmark decision was taken. It was decided that in conitnuance with the people led vision of Uplift,Community Representatives would now be on the Board of Uplift, representaing members on UIA Board.
Uplift Governance also comprises of the following committees apart from the Board of Directors
