District Strategic Plan

You'll find the current version of the Cheltenham Township School District Strategic Plan at the District homepage

We've created this page so that stakeholders and community members can share their thoughts and recommendations on the plan.  The only rules are that you must be respectful of everyone involved in developing the plan, and that no personally identifiable information may be included.  This is a public site monitored and managed by UPG.  If you would like to hold an online discussion of the Strategic Plan, we invite you to join our group website at:  http://groups.google.com/group/cheltenham-township-united-parents-group

General Comments:

  1. "What gets measured gets done." Descriptions of tasks should include metrics indicative of progress, of completion, and of defined and documented output, so that the District might effectively monitor and track activities.
  2. "Focus on lasting change."  The output of tasks should result in a recommendation for policy or process change, or a new policy or process should be drafted to reflect the knowledge gathered under the task.
  3. Please spell out all acronyms.

Academic Standards...

  1. The effort under Advance Instructional Practices seems to be unbalanced as compared to the RTI tasks.
  2. Updating the Curriculum should reflect teacher and administrator training requirements.

Teacher Induction

  1. Mentors: Add specific metrics that allow each measure to be assessed. Letters of recommendation or prior assessments relative to the measure may suffice provided that there is a board of review. Applicants for mentor should assemble a resume describing the evidence showing how each measure has been addressed during their tenure.
  2. District department heads and mentors should also be required to complete the needs assessments for each inductee.

Student Services

  1. The district cannot control racially separated seating or single-race classes. These issues are based on student preference or student performance and should not be the focus of improving racial treatment. There can be no presumption of racial treatment in the strategic plan.  If there is disagreement on this, the public should be provided with evidence of racially motivated behavior in assigning seating or class make-up.
  2. What racial norms are being communicated to teachers?
  3. Please restate the presumption of humiliation as a teaching tool, the presumption of profanity, the presumption of harassment, the presumption that parent advocacy is somehow undermining the mission.
  4. Please complete the activity descriptions under Providing Community Outreach.
  5. Develop a stepped approach to truancy versus immediate movement to the courts.

Educational Technology

  1. Please reflect a goal for engaging the larger community, industry, and/or academia to share in learning experiences and to contribute expertise to the school environment while building a relationship with students, teachers, and administrators.
