| Scottish Terrier Rescue of Northern New York ("STRANNY," rhymes with "nanny") works with the Scottish Terrier Club of America's national Rescue Network. We serve the "upstate" portion of New York State, from Lake Erie in the West to the Croton Watershed, where we recede in favor of the Scottish Terrier Club of Greater New York's rescue program. STRANNY is incorporated as the Scottish Terrier Rescue Association of Northern New York (STRANNY), a New York not-for profit corporation, is headquartered in Jordan, New York and is headed by its founder, Cheryl S. Root. STRANNY is supported by Nickie's Fund, a 501(c)(3) charitable organization. STRANNY seeks to provide crisis shelter and permanent adoptive homes for Scottish Terriers surrendered by owners or provided by nondenominational shelters (25% of all shelter dogs are purebred!) and animal control officials. Since 1986, over 100 dogs have gone to "forever homes" as a result of our efforts. When STRANNY takes possession of a Scottie, we assess its health and social needs and then reach out to Scottish Terrier lovers throughout North America, focusing, of course, on our core territory. Our goal is to match dog and home to a degree that will enrich the lives of both, while not asking more of one or the other than they can reasonably provide! STRANNY's main facility is in Jordan, New York, which is centrally located in our service territory. Volunteers transport and foster the dogs, both coming to and going from this facility. STRANNY volunteers also provide public education on dog rescue and Scottish Terrier characteristics (Scotties are not for everyone!) at shelters, pet stores, humane societies and Scottish festivals throughout our service territory. >> Adoption Info >> >> Available Dogs >> |
