Volunteer Responsibilities

Volunteer Library Ambassador Meeting Leader

  • "In Charge"
    • Represents the library at the meeting
    • Follows the meeting agenda
    • Knows the House Rules
    • If help needed, dial 0 (Main Desk) or 231 (Info Desk) and ask for Librarian in Charge
  • Before Meeting (5:30pm)
    • Let Main Desk know you are here
    • Set up refreshments cart (cart room is next to staff room)
      • Water pitcher (from Staff Room)
      • Ice (staff room freezer) in orange bowl (staff room cabinet)
      • Extra orange bowl (staff room cabinet) for snack someone brings
      • Paper plates, napkins, cups (4th floor storage room)
    • Upstairs: turn up/down heat/AC
    • Popcorn machine (packets in storage room)
    • Games from storage room: set out on stage
    • Place survey forms on tables
  • Greet people arriving before meeting
    • Invite them to look at games in front
    • If tables/chairs not set up, have them set them up
    • Invite them to take a seat: announcements begin at 6:00pm
  • Start of meeting announcements (6:00 pm)
    • Bathroom location
    • Fire exits
    • Show and Tell to begin after announcements: 5 min to tell about one game
    • Game play to wrap up by 8:15pm: building closes at 8:30pm
    • Remind people to fill out program surveys before leaving
  • Show and Tell time (6:05pm)
    • Give people who wish max of 5 min. each to show off a game they brought
    • Can show off a game from the library's collection, too
  • End of meeting announcements
    • 8:00pm: "Please wrap up game play by 8:15"
    • 8:15pm: "Please end gameplay and fill out evaluations."  Thank people for attending.
  • Post meeting
    • Collect evaluations
    • Clean popcorn machine
    • Put games, evaluations, extra cups, paper plates, napkins, cups away in storage room
    • Change heat/cooling to proper position
    • Turn off lights
    • Take refreshments cart downstairs
      • rinse pitcher
      • wash ice, snack bowls
  • SIGN UP to be Volunteer Library Ambassador for an Unplug & Play meeting.


Volunteer Soft Drink or Snack Provider duties

  • Bring enough of a snack for 20 people to share, or two bottles of soft drinks (one caffeine free and one diet, please).
  • Please avoid snacks that will cause sticky fingers, as this will make it hard to keep the games clean.
  • SIGN UP to bring soft drinks or a snack to a future Unplug & Play meeting.

 

Game of the Month (GoM) Guide Responsibilities

  • Know the rules for the game to be taught.
  • Set up the game on GoM table and be prepared to walk people through a few rounds to get them acclimated.
  • If instructional materials are prepared, please bring 20 copies.
  • NOTE: Games of the Month are selected by the participants at Unplug & Play meetings from a list of nominated titles.  Any game may be nominated, but only games for which someone has volunteered to be Game Guide are eligible to be chosen as a future Game of the Month.
  • TO NOMINATE A GAME FOR GAME OF THE MONTH and volunteer as Game Guide for that game, contact Peter Chien at Jervis Library by calling 336-4570, or emailing him at:

    • Monthly press release
    • Create Poster for GoM
    • Add meeting details to GCal
    • Maintain UAP email list
      • Monthly email to list
  • Maintain library game collection
    • Process games
    • Create list of parts for each game
      • Record in group games list
      • create cards with parts to include inside game
    • Keep game inventory list up-to-date
  • Update Unplug and Play wiki
    • Update GoM page
    • Add pictures, video
  • Supplies
    • Large post-its for recording game name, owner
    • 5x7 or 3x5 cards for recording game parts
    • Cups (hot and cold)
    • Small paper plates
    • Serving bowls/plates for goodies (staff room)
    • Water pitcher
    • Sign in sheets
    • Game check-out sheets or cards
    • Stickers with game title, PAT info for attaching to check out sheets. 



Meetings

Unplug & Play meets from 6:00pm-8:15pm on the first Wednesday of every month in the Jervis Public Library auditorium.
