Helping the Earthquake Victims in Chile

As many of you have already seen on the news, on Saturday 27th of February an 8.8 magnitude earthquake, one of the most powerful earthquakes registered to date, struck Chile. This event was followed by a tsunami that wiped out complete towns near the coastline, leaving almost 800 people dead and over 2 million affected (which is around 12% of the country's population).

These events have damaged and in many cases completely destroyed the infrastructure and basic services within the country (highways, hospitals, power and communication lines), leaving areas completely isolated and without shelter or food.

Living in a country with a history of earthquakes, the Chilean people are used to natural disasters, but given the impressive intensity of this earthquake, there are huge economical challenges to help them all and rebuild the country.

Being so far away makes it really tough when such hard conditions fall over your country and your loved ones.
In order to help with the relief and reconstruction efforts, groups of Chilean Students, Alumni, and Professors from many universities around the world have created relief funds to support the victims of this tragic event.

These are some of the current university communities that are gathering release funds:

but we hope that many more University communities get together in order to help. All these initiatives are coordinated through Build Chile, which is also accepting donations if you prefer to do it through them, and you can find additional information at http://capitalregionhelpschile.org/.

If you have any concerns about this initiative or you want to know in which other ways you can contribute please go to any of these initiatives and contact their organization teams.

We thank you in advance for your prayers and your collaboration.
