I believe there is one last genre that has yet to be properly explored in computer gaming. Traditional online computer games tend to feel very limited because every aspect of the game must be entirely created by the game designers. Some of today’s games try to give the feeling of a limitless world by investing millions of dollars into creating as much game content as possible. The universe projects are meant to break that paradigm and usher in a new type of game that is not built by the game designers but rather by the players who live within it.

In reality, it’s not so much a game but a universe simulation. Players enter the universe and survive within it. The primary universe project is meant to be a simulation of humanity where players entering the world for the first time would face the same challenges humans would have faced before becoming civilized. Our intrinsic need to progress and explore will be enough to keep people playing a game like this. 

Since there are no defined goals, there is no finish line. Players will become aware of things they would like to have to survive better; goals will be created by the players. Players will need to find food, water, shelter and protection from animals as well as other players. These basic needs are reflected in our own lives and will be easy to relate to. Needs will drive invention and technology forwards as players try to make their lives in the game easier and put themselves in a situation where they no longer have to worry about these dangers.

Within the civilizations that form in the game, there will be periods of ease where players will be “on top of the world” so to speak. However, other players groups will eventually become strong enough to challenge them. You’ll never be completely safe in a world like this, the game would never end unless you simply stop playing.

The game simulates our own world as closely as possible, therefore there is an incredible number of things a player can do. The following is an incredibly small sample list of the possibilities within the game:
