Standard equipment 70th Guards Rifle Division. RKKA

1.  M43 soviet Tunic (with or without pockets) and trousers. Eventually most of us get 1935 tunics as well, which would have been used at Stalingrad.  However, it is highly unlikely we will have an early war battle any time soon.) $180-240.

The best uniforms come from Trident, The good ones are usually olive drab, or a salt and pepper fabric.  Best choice generation 2 with Trident. http://www.tridentmilitary.com/Reproduction.uniforms.html

They are listed on the trident website as:

M43G2P. Reproduction Soviet M43 breeches.

M432GST1. Reproduction Soviet M43 shirt tunics with standing collar.  Soviet Army 100% cotton twill

material and original METAL buttons.  $109.95

M432GSWOP. As above, but WITHOUT POCKETS. $109.95

2.  Pilotka (sidecap) with either green or original red star.

M43NGCAP. M35 pilotka. Cap star not included. $20.00

Trident sells the green cap stars and the red, both work but if you get red it has to be original (which is $10)

3. Infantry shoulder boards (raspberry piping) $16-20 Shoulder boards are good from both Trident and Ostfront (Ostfront.com), I would get whatever is cheaper just make sure they have raspberry piping not red.

4. Boots either jack boots (sapoggi) or low boots with laces and leg wraps (puttees) $55-200. Boots can be gotten at a lot of places. If you want Jacks get Soviet enlisted-NCO half leather black combat boots from trident ($89) If you want low boots the best looking ones are from civilwarboots.com they make an RKKA low boot, but it’s not cheap, it also does not hold up as well as the jacks by trident, but a cobbler can make them the best. www.Frontofrussia.com, also has low boots, although they don’t look as good as the civilwarboots, they are a decent alternative. If you choose to use low boots, you must also get  leg wraps (putees). Trident, has them as does whatpriceglory.com (they are listed as British WWI but they work well for soviet.

5. Belt  Single prong roller leather, or leather/canvas belt. $15.  There are two types of belts which can be worn. Leather and Canvas/leather. Leatherones can be gotten from trident or ostfront for $15-24. The leather/canvas type are  also at both places, but the least expensive are from Ostfront.    Both full leather and canvas/leather blend belts will work great, it all comes down to personal preference.

6.  2 Mosin Nagant Ammo Pouches (that is unless you have an SMG or an SVT) $20-30 each.  If you use a 91-30 the best ammo pouches come from Ostfront.

7.  Soviet m40 helmet with 3 pad liner. $ 25-100 Helmets tend to be hard to find in the right size. Ostfront has them but they are not cheap ($75-100) They do appear on ebay periodically, but be careful as there is a lot of shifty dealers out there. Recently Sportsmansguide and Atthefront both had them in stock.

8.  Vesh meshok(soviet back pack)  Both trident and ostfront have them, and they are both great  $25-30

9.  Soviet Canteen, with cover $15-60. These can be gotten at a number of places, since the soviet style canteen did not greatly change until the 1990s! the best ones come from ostfront and are $50 as they are exact pattern.

10.  3 pocket grenade pouch, for F1 grenades. Or an Rdg33 stick grenade pouch. $10-20 can be gotten at any of the aforementioned locations.

11.  Soviet E tool (shovel) and cover. $20-65 Shovels are available at Trident, Front of Russia, Ostfront, and sometimes sportsman guide that also goes for covers, they are all ok so long as the cover opens from the top not the bottom.

12.  Mess kit, or soviet cook pot $20-65 mess tins can be gotten from trident, ostfront, and a few other sources. If you want a mess pot Orginals can somtimes be found on ostfront, and Collect Russia for under $70.

13.  Spoon (yes I really said spoon) all Red Army soldiers carried a long wooden or metal spoon $10 Mess tins canteens, and spoons usually are cheapest at ostfront, and collectrussia.com.

15.  Placsh Palatka (rain cape) leather grommets only $45  (used for shelter in lieu of a tent) Can be gotten at both Ostfront and Trident for $45

16. Guards Badges every soldier must have a Guards Badge. They pop up every now and then, the best kind our of course originals which sometimes appear on  Ostfront, collectrussia, or ebay(be careful on ebay) 80s ones can be aged to look fairly decent, and can be found in a number of places in the $7-15 range, if you find one just ask your unit authenticity officer.

Optional equipment

Ushanka (fur hat) $25-39 you can get these at trident, ostfront (I don’t like the ostfront ones), frontofrussia, several other sources.

Padded Jacket, and pants (price really depends) hard to find Ebay or Front of Russia are best places, but they are not cheap, and I would not buy one without first having it approved.

Wool Greatcoat $29-65 trident, ostfront, frontofrussia, ebay, and sometimes www.sportsmansguide.com

Gasmask Bag $25-45 these are not needed but are very nice to have, you can get them from osfront, trident and several other places.

Russian winter boots (valinkee) Very hard to find, but they do sell them at trident, and front of Russia for about $50-65
