Website Development

One of the functions of Unfettered Mind's website is to make information about the practice of Buddhism freely available to all who are interested. You can help make this happen in any of three ways:

  1. sending in questions or ideas about topics that are important to you
  2. sending in ideas for sections that you think would be of interest
  3. developing the ideas by using this wiki as a test bed.

To participate, you can choose any of three steps, depending on your interest and your circumstances. Naturally, we have some guidelines and suggestions, but you will have a lot of latitude to play and experiment.

Step 1: Visit the Site Forum and look over the ideas you see there. Some of the ideas may be similar to ideas you have. Or you may see a new idea that really interests you. In either case, add replies to build on them, refine them, or take them in a new direction. And if you have an idea of your own, even a crazy idea, add it to the page. Others will see it and have a chance to comment or build on it to make the idea even better or crazier.

Brainstorming rule #1: Crazy is good.

If at first the idea is not absurd, then there is no hope for it. Albert Einstein

Step 2: If you would like to take an idea further, send us a short proposal using the outline given in Site Proposal. Tell us how you see the idea being implemented on the website. Anything in the SiteForum is fair game, your ideas, or other people's ideas.

Brainstorming rule #2: Don't compete. Use everyone's ideas to build new possibilities.

Step 3: If you would like to go even further, we will create a "playpen" on this wiki for you to create a rough version of how the idea might look on the website. You can take this as far as you like, even to the point that it can be moved to the website itself.

Ready? Then....

Ken: What about putting an area where there can be a discussion board. So when people put up ideas, others can see them and maybe get inspired too? --F

Ken: Is this a place I could/should keep a working draft of the Finding A Teacher 'article' once I start writing it? (BTW, perhaps we can meet soon and you can pass along whatever source materials you have for me to review, or you could do so at next Tuesday's vow ceremony.) - Art

Franca, yes, a discussion board is a good idea. I've opened a section in the Forum for Site Development.

Art, yes, this is the place for working on Finding a Teacher. I'll put all the resource materials here for you later today.

Yes, Franca, I've opened a new Forum for Site Development ideas.
