Prior to the meeting Please send via email any questions you would particularly like considered. A headset is strongly advised. It cuts down feedback and improves sound quality. Preparation Close out any program that uses audio or video, such as Skype, iChat, Yahoo messenger, and music and video editing programs. Best to restart your computer. We have found that dimdim works more reliably when it doesn't have to compete with other programs for shared resources. 15-30 minutes before the meeting, go to http://dimdim.com, click on Join Meeting, type in "kenmcleod" in Meeting Room, and your first name in the second box. Then click on Join Meeting. People knowledgeable about dimdim will be there to help with any technical difficulties and to make sure everything works. Please join the meeting early so we can start the session on time with technical issues already resolved. If you don't have a headset, make sure you uncheck the "hands free" option below where you will see the video picture of me. Additional technical points are discussed on Unfettered Mind's ning site. Interaction during the meeting For the actual interactions, I will assign a mike or a camera to the person with whom I'm going to demonstrate one or other of these tools. When I assign a mike or video camera to you, please use the "talk" button. Doing so keeps the level of feedback and background noise down and makes for a better interaction. An unmuted mike can create an unpleasant experience for everyone. To ask a question, click on my name in the participant list, select "private chat" and send the question. Given the experience in previous meetings, I will probably hold questions until one of the questions periods so as not to disrupt the presentation or the demonstrations. If your video or audio freezes during the meeting, the best remedy is to leave the meeting and rejoin it. It only takes a minute at the most, it usually resets everything, and you won't miss very much. If you have other problems, then please click on our tech support person's name and send him a private chat. He/she will do their best to help you. Recording The dimdim recording feature seems to work well and we will record the meeting, that is, the slides for the presentation, the audio of the interactions, and the chat record (in a separate file). I will send you links to these when dimdim tells me they are ready (this may be several days after our meeting, but depends on dimdim's servers). Looking forward to meeting with you, Ken |
