1. Acquisition of equipment for the Radio Division of The Gambia Radio and Television Services. ******************************************************************* Introduction
As the national radio service has played and would continue to have a very important role in the socio-economic development of the people and given its strength and efficiency as a medium of communication, the provision of essential equipment and spares to improve the coverage and quality of its radio signals is urgent and crucial. Since the current equipment becomes is easily obsolete and incompatible, there is a dire need to adjust to new technologies as they offer the possibilities of acquiring efficient studio and field equipment in digital format particularly since technology is now all changing towards that direction.
The Process
The list of equipment was compiled by a team of engineers and regarded as essential for quality broadcasting to a wider audience. They were all necessary to facilitate the operation of the studios at full capacity, enhance more programme making and improve on the quality of the audio output.
The project procured, and operationalised essential studio and field equipment that are indispensable to good broadcasting and extensive coverage.
A tender was therefore floated for the acquisition of the equipment and the tender committee decided to go for the lowest bidder to facilitate the purchase of all the specified equipment. Which were late handed over to the GRTS Radio Director at a ceremony the premises of the National Commission. The Director expressed his appreciation and promised to make good use of the equipment.
The handing over ceremony was witnessed by both NATCOM and GRTS staff as well as the members of the Tender Committee. The Chairman of the Committee handed over the equipment whilst the Secretary General of NATCOM gave a brief statement on the background of the project. The Director of GRTS Radio gave the vote of thanks.
