Theatre, history, and activism come together for this exciting project sponsored by UNCG Vox (Voices for Planned Parenthood). Jane: Abortion and the Underground tells the true story of the underground abortion provider service that was formed by a group of women in Chicago in the late 1960s—early 1970s, prior to Roe vs. Wade. The service aided over 11,000 women and boasted no fatalities. The play, written by Chicago author Paula Kamen, was based on interviews with the men and women who created the service as well as former patients. Roles are available for men and women ages 18-60. Auditions are open to UNCG students, faculty, staff, and alumni as well as members of the community. The UNCG Vox production of Jane: Abortion and the Underground will be a staged reading (script in hand). Rehearsals will be held September 24th through October 15th. Jane: Abortion and the Underground will be performed October 16th at 8:00 p.m. and October 17th at 2:00 and 8:00 p.m. in the Elliott University Center Auditorium on the UNCG campus. ******************************************************
