This tutorial teaches an easy method for making pixel doll bases using ArtCursors.

I - Method 1 / Método 1 - ArtCursors
1) Find an image (a photograph or drawing) of a person in the pose you want. It's recomended that you use pictures of people with tight clothes, so you can see the shape of the body. In my example, I'll use a picture of a sculpture by Degas. Note: Resize the picture if necessary.
Encontre uma imagem (fotografia ou desenho) de uma pessoa na pose que você quer. é recomendável que você utilize uma imagem de uma pessoa com roupas justas, para que você possa ver os contornos do corpo. No meu exemplo, usarei uma foto de uma escultura de Degas. Observação: Redimensione a imagem se achar necessário.
2) Open the picture with ArtCursors (File > Open). There will be an opening message screen. Choose the option "As source" and click "Ok".
Abra a figura com o ArtCursors (File > Open). Haverá uma tela com uma mensagem inicial. Escolha a opção "As source" e clique em "Ok".
3) With the picture opened, click "Effects" > "Hue/saturation". Use the arrows to desaturate and lighten the image as much as you can (you still have to be able to see the image contours and some details).
Com a imagem aberta, clique em "Effects" > "Hue/saturation". Use as setas para dessaturar e clarear a imagem o máximo que conseguir (de maneira que você ainda consiga ver os contornos da imagem e alguns detalhes).
4) Click "Tools" > "Convert image format" to assure yourself you're working on "True Color" mode. Click "Ok" if you are, or select the mode if you're not. Then choose a strong, vivid color, like red or green. Use the "Curved line" tool to trace the contours of the picture. You'll have to be patient, make small parts at each time, until you finish it all.
Clique em "Tools" > "Convert image format" para ter certeza de que está trabalhando no modo "True Color". Se estiver, clique em "Ok", caso contrário, selecione esse modo. Escolha então uma cor forte e vívida, como vermelho ou verde. Use a ferramenta "Curved line" (linha curva) para traçar os contornos da imagem. Seja paciente, faça pequenas partes de cada vez, até terminar tudo.
5) Finish tracing it, completing the body parts if necessary. When you 're done tracing the contours, save the image with another name and the extension ".gif" or ".png", NEVER as ".jpg".

6) Click "Tools" > "Convert image format" and choose the option "16 colors". The result will be something like shown below, with few different colors.

7) On the palette, double click one of the colors you recognize in the picture (except for the one you used for tracing). A screen like the one below will be shown. Select the white color and click "Ok". That chosen color will be replaced for white. Repeat the procedure with all colors, except the one from the contour.
Na paleta, dê um clique duplo em uma das cores que você reconhece na imagem (exceto a que você usou para contornar). Uma tela como a mostrada abaixo será exibida. Selecione a cor branca e clique em "Ok". A cor escolhida será substituída pela branca. Repita o procedimento com todas as cores, exceto com a que você usou no contorno.
8) The result will look like the first picture shown below. Fix or alter what you find necessary (second picture).
O resultado ficará como a primeira figura mostrada abaixo. Corrija ou altere o que achar necessário (segunda figura).
9) Click "Tools" > "Convert image format" and select "True Color" mode once again, then click "Ok". After that, go to "Effects" > "Replace color". On "Old color", choose "Custom" and then click on the rectangle and select the color white. On "New color", choose "Transparent". That will make the background transparent, leaving only the contour.
Clique em "Tools" > "Convert image format" e selecione novamente o modo "True Color", então clique em "Ok". Depois clique em "Effects" > "Replace color". Em "Old Color", selecione "Custom" e clique no retângulo para selecionar a cor branca. Em "New Color", escolha "Transparent". Isso deixará o fundo transparente, restando apenas o contorno.
10) Use the "Replace color" function to replace the contour color for the color you think is more proper. For a human doll skin, for example, you could use light brown. On "Old color", choose the color you used for the contour, on "New color", the one you want to replace it with. Click "Other" on the "Select color" screen if you want to personalize a color.
Use a função "Replace color" para trocar a cor que você usou para contornar por uma que você considere mais apropriada. Em "Old Color", selecione a cor que você usou no contorno, em "New color" a cor pela qual você deseja substitui-la. Clique em "Other" na tela "Select color" se quiser personalizar a cor.
11) Check if there are flaws on the contour, and fix them if you find any. Then you can start coloring your base and adding details to it. Use the "Pencil" tool for adding details and the "Flood fill" tool for coloring.
Verifique se há falhas no contorno, e as corrija se você as encontrar. Então você pode começar a colorir sua base e a acrescentar detalhes a ela. Use a ferramenta "Pencil" (lápis) para os detalhes e a "Flood fill" (balde) para pintar.
