The Institute for Operations Research and the Management Sciences (INFORMS) serves the scientific and professional needs of OR/MS students, educators, investigators, scientists, and practitioners. INFORMS serves as a focal point for OR/MS professionals, helping us to communicate with each other.

INFORMS can get you involved in national and local meetings, job interviews and resume listings, and student advice sessions. The U of M student chapter meets approximately every three weeks. Our main purpose is to keep you in touch with people who share your professional interests.

There are no annual dues for being a member of the student chapter. However by joining the national organization (annual dues are $30), you get a subscription to "OR/MS Today" magazine (with articles about employers, software surveys, industry trends and statistics, and lot of classified advertisements for jobs). You can get group rates on life or health insurance. You can list your resume and search for employers in our free job placement service. Maybe you'll choose to become active in any of over 30 special-interest subdivisions (you get to join one free as a student member). You are entitled to half-price subscriptions to any of 9 different journals that describe the latest OR/MS methods, new ideas, and how OR/MS is being applied in academia and in the real world.
