HIV/AIDS Week
Have you always wanted to be involved with advocacy, education, and awareness for HIV and/or AIDS? This is the perfect opportunity! HIV/AIDS Week, in collaboration with many other organizations on campus, is a week to not only bring awareness, but to also provide students will ways to get involved with the fight against HIV/AIDS. This year, HIV/AIDS Week is November 28th through December 2nd, 2011. Each day there will be a new event - whether it be handing out ribbons, selling cookies to raise money, bringing in speakers, or watching a movie about the devastating disease. Have you planned in a big charity event before? Bring your skills to this committee! All ideas are welcome. This event will be happening in Spring 2012 but it's never too late to start planning early! A huge part of this committee is outreach - not only to our school, but also to other schools on campus as well as other organizations and Public Health programs. Our biggest project is the Community Care Initiative Health Fair in
collaboration with Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in the Spring.
Publicity & Awareness An organization is only as strong as its members! This committee is involved with recruiting and maintaining membership. They also help advertise SMdPHA events. Our main projects include compiling monthly
newsletters with relevant public health topics in an effort to raise awareness.
Fundraising*
$$$! That is what this committee is about! Helping to fundraise allows SMdPHA to host its community service and public health outreach events throughout the year! Shady Grove is a very important part this organization! Through this committee, we will ensure that events such as HIV/AIDS Week reach the SG campus. This committee also does outreach to other SG health related programs such as Nursing and Social Work! Both Baltimore AND SG students are encouraged to join this committee! * These committees currently involve activites pertaining to UMB, School of Pharmacy.
