Colchester Chinese Culture Society
Constitution

The Group will be called Colchester Chinese Culture Society (CCCS).

Aim
The purpose of the Society is to promote Chinese community life and to foster interactions with other community groups in Colchester and its surrounding Districts.

Objectives
  1. To promote better understanding of Chinese culture among members and local people
  2. To promote culture identity among old and new Chinese generations through continues culture educational activities
  3. To reduce isolation and improve socialisation.
  4. Work with other organisations to develop networking and with other groups with similar Aims.
  5. To provide relevant information for members through newsletters and websites
Powers
The organisation will work with the Chinese community in Colchester and it’s surrounding Districts to achieve the aims and objects of the Society. This will be achieved in partnership with Voluntary and Community groups.  CCCS intends to become a registered Charity.


Membership
Full membership of CCCS will be open to Chinese of Colchester and its surrounding areas.  Associated membership is open to other members of the public. Membership of the group will be approved by, the members of CCCS’s, Management Committee. The Committee will approve a current Membership Fees.


The affairs of the Society
The member’s of the Society will elect the Management Committee at the Annual General Meeting, and will oversee the business of the Society. The committee will comprise of the following Officers a Chairperson, Vice Chair, Treasurer, Secretary, and up to ten other members. The Committee will have the power to co-opt on to the committee individuals of the community to further the aims of the Association. All committee members will stand down yearly, but may stand for re-election. The Committee will meet no less than six times per year.

Duties
The duties of the committee shall be:
  • To control the affairs of the society
  • To keep accurate accounts of the society finances through the Treasurer. These should be available for reasonable inspection by members and should have an independent examination and be available at the AGM.
  • To maintain a Bank Account in CCCS name requiring at least two named and unrelated senior officers to sign each cheque.
  • To make decisions on the basis of a simple majority vote. The Chair shall be entitled to an additional casting vote in the event of a tied vote.
General Meetings
The AGM will take place every year the Members and Funders will be notified not less than twenty-one days before the event.  An Annual Review of the work and its activities of CCCS will be produced along with the certificated accounts and be presented at the meeting. Officers will be elected at this meeting.

Alterations to the Constitution
  • Any changes to the Constitution will be voted on at the AGM or an Extraordinary General Meeting by the membership, this requires two-thirds majority of the membership to vote.
  • Notification of this will be reported to the Charity Commission.

Dissolution or Winding Up
If CCCS should wish to dissolve for any reason the organisation to the satisfaction of its members, clear all debts and liabilities and transfer all remaining assets to any charitable organisation in Colchester and the surrounding District running similar activities to CCCS.
