A special thanks and congratulations to graduating seniors Bob O'Malley, Karolen Hasdoo, and Erica Perez.  Their tireless commitment to the program will have a lasting impression on many students.
 
March 18 - 20, 2011
A team of UIC mockers competed in the Hamilton ORCS this weekend.  The team flexed their muscle winning ballots by 17 points and 13 points.  However, dissapointing judging caused them to be the "talk of the tab room" as other coaches couldn't beleive our point diffirential after two rounds was +30 -2.  Though they fought to claim a spot in the top 6, the team fell just shy of advancing to the National Championship Tournament
 
March 11 - 13, 2011
A team filled with UIC Mock Trial newcomers competed in the Waukegan ORCS.  The team fought their way through and beat some of the toughest competition including Northwestern and the National Champions from Northwood.  Despite these great achievments, the team missed advancing to the National Championship Tournament.  It was a great season!
 
February 26 - 27, 2011
UIC battled through a tough regional to earn 4th place honors and secure two bids to the Open Round Championship Site Tournament.  Congrats to the team for making this 16 straight years UIC has earned a bid to a National Tournament!

        It's that time of the year again.  Dates for UIC Mock Trial Info Sessions are:  August 30 at 10:00am & 12:00pm, August 31 at 10:00am & 4:30pm, September 1 at 10:00am & 3:30pm & September 2 at 4:30pm.  All are in BSB Room 1171.

      Seven members from the UIC Mock Trial program began their off-season by competing at the 7th annual John Marshall Law School Undergraduate Diversity Mock Trial Competition. Three members of the Mock Trial team were recognized for their individual performances: Shannon Heath was awarded the Second Best Advocate Award and Majdi Sweis received the Third Best Advocate Award. And due to Robert O'Malley's excellent performance, UIC was awarded the John Marshall Platinum Award for having the three highest ranking advocates. Press Release

March 22, 2010

     The UIC Mock Trial team competed at the Opening Round of the National Championship in St. Paul, Minnesota last weekend. After four tough rounds of competition, UIC Team 1119 finished with a record of 2-6. Team 1119 faced formidable opponents throughout the tournament and fought hard with most of the losses only being by 2 points or less. Although the season has ended, the National Championship tournament provided great experience for the largely underclassmen team, building and developing their skills for a strong representation next year

February 22, 2010

        Last weekend, the UIC Mock Trial Program sent two teams to the American Mock Trial Association Regional Tournament in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Team 1119 finished with an impressive record of 7 wins and 1 loss, earning 1st place and the title of Regional Champion. Team 1118 faced tough competition at the Regional Tournament, finishing with an overall record of 3-5.  
        UIC had strong performances from many of its members throughout the weekend.  Yasmin Ali, Andrew Buslik, Pratham Dear, Caroline Foreman and Shannon Heath all earned individual awards for their performances.
        This marks the 15th straight year that the UIC Mock Trial Program has sent a team to the National Tournament.  UIC Mock Trial would like to thank all of its supporters for the work they have done to make UIC Regional Champions.  Throughout the next few weeks, the team will focus on preparing for the Opening Round of the Championship Series in St. Paul/Minneapolis, Minnesota.

        In order the prepare for the Regional Tournament in February, the UIC Mock Trial Program sent two teams to the Illinois Invitational hosted by University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. At one of the most challenging tournaments of the year, Team 1118 finished with an impressive record of 7-1. Overall, Team 1118 was ranked second out of the total 32 teams and only 1.5 points behind first place. Team 1119 finished with a record of 4-4, but looks forward to a strong performance at the next tournament. Shannon Heath received an Outstanding Attorney Award while Fae Rabin and Caroline Foreman both earned an Outstanding Witness Award for their memorable witness portrayals.

December 7, 2009

        Over the weekend, the UIC Mock Trial Program sent two freshman teams to the Midwest Challenge hosted by the University of St. Francis. Both teams performed well throughout the tournament while facing tough competition from Northwood University, Loyola University, and Illinois State University. Overall both teams finished with a record of 4-4. M.J. Sweis and Bob O’Malley both earned Outstanding Attorney Awards again.

November 23, 2009

        This past weekend the UIC Mock Trial Program sent two predominately freshman teams to compete at the Fantastic Flyers Invitational hosted by Lewis University. Team 1118 faced familiar Midwest rivals from Holy Cross, Illinois State University, and Cornell University and finished in 9th place overall. Even though having faced three teams in the top ten of the competition, Team 1119 finished 3rd place overall and also won the prestigious ATMA Spirit Award for their display of outstanding character and competition.
        Jamey O’Neal earned an Outstanding Witness Award for her portrayal of the defendant while M.J. Sweis, Shannon Heath, and Bob O’Malley earned Outstanding Attorney Awards.

        This past weekend the UIC Mock Trial Program sent teams to the University of Iowa Cornshucker Challenge as well as the Illinois State University’s Invitational Tournament. All three teams finished with records of 4-4 as they faced tough competition from throughout the Midwest. Many new members of the program gained valuable experience as the UIC Mock Trial Program continues to shift and adjust to prepare for the regional tournament in February.
        Bob O’Malley and Karolen Hasdoo both earned Outstanding Attorney Awards while Yasmin Ali earned in Outstanding Witness Award for her portrayal of an expert witness. The UIC Mock Trial Program is proud of the accomplishments the members of the team have made and looks forward to strong showings in the coming months.

November 2, 2009

        The UIC Mock Trial competed at the 2nd annual Spartan Throwdown hosted by Case Western Reserve in Cleveland, OH. Just weeks after their 8-0 finish in Columbus, OH, UIC put on another strong performance. UIC competed against teams including Sullivan College, Kenyon College, University of Chicago, and Notre Dame University. UIC finished with a record of 6-2, which resulted in a tie for 3rd place. After tie-breakers were calculated, UIC earned 5th place overall out of 32 teams.

October 19, 2009

      This past weekend the UIC Mock Trial Team won The Ohio State University Scarlett and Gray Invitational, finishing with a perfect record of 8-0.  The team faced tough competition from not only Midwest rivals, but also the defending national champions, Northwood University. 
     The UIC  Mock Trial Team was also honored with the Spirit of AMTA Award. This award was presented to UIC by the teams they competed against for displaying the highest ideals of civility, integrity and fair play.  
     In addition, Jon Carlson, Caroline Foremen, Bob O'Malley, and M.J. Sweis all earned individual awards for their outstanding performances throughout the competition.

April 20, 2009

        The UIC Mock Trial program completed an outstanding year on April 19, 2009. Proudly representing UIC, both teams competed in the opening round of the National Championship, and one team advanced to the final round. Though challenging, the UIC Mock Trial team faced tough competition, and despite not winning the National title, have greatly improved and learned from their experience.

        The UIC Mock Trial program would like to thank everyone that has contributed to the success of this year by devoting their time and efforts to practices, scrimmages, and tournaments.

        The University of Illinois at Chicago recently published a press release about the UIC Mock Trial's 14th consecutive bid to the National Tournament and their success at the Opening Round of the Championship Series. Press Release

March 22, 2009

        The UIC Mock Trial program competed at the Opening Round of the National Championship Tournament this past weekend. UIC was one of few programs that was able to qualify two teams for the opening round. UIC Team 1149 faced fierce competition throughout the tournament inccluding nationally ranked teams from Ohio State University, University of Pennsylvania, Case Western Reserve, and 10 time Regional Champion Miami University. Overall, Team 1149 finished in 3rd place with a record of 7-1 and the only loss being to University of Pennsylvania by one point. UIC's second squad, Team 1150, representing the underclassmen, did well against experienced and veteran teams in the Opening Round. Overall, Team 1150 finished with a record of 2-6.
        The University of Illinois at Chicago will be advancing one team to the National Championship Tournament in Des Moines, Iowa from April 17-19. The National Championship Tournament will consist of the top 48 teams in the nation, competing in two divisions for the American Mock Trial National Title.

        The UIC Mock Trial program competed at the Regional Tournament for the Midwest. The Regional Tournament brings the 22 best teams from across the region together to compete for eight bids to the National Championship Tournament. UIC brought two solid teams to the Regional Tournament in hopes of earning two of the eight bids. After facing some of the toughest competition from across the region as well as several home-town rivals, UIC Teams 348 and 349 both earned bids to the opening round of the National Championship Tournament, placing seventh and fifth place in the region, respectively.

        The UIC Mock Trial program had a friendly scrimmage against Loyola University at their Lake Shore Campus. The UIC Mock Trial captains, coaches, and members of the team would like to thank Loyola University’s Mock Trial team for their hospitality and time. We wish them the best of luck at their regional tournament next weekend, and hope to see them at the National Tournament.

January 26, 2009

        After a long winter break, the UIC Mock Trial Program attended the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign’s inaugural Illini Invitational. This was the biggest tournament of the year with a total of 36 teams from across the region. After facing some of the best teams in the nation and old rivals from Regional tournaments in the past, Team 348 finished with a winning record of 5-3 and Team 349 finished with a respectful 4-4 record. M.J. Sweis earned an Outstanding Witness Award for his portrayal during the tournament.

December 8, 2008

        Before winter break, the UIC Mock Trial program attended the University of St. Francis’s Midwest Challenge in Joliet, Illinois. UIC Teams 348 and 349 were evenly split in an effort to provide the new members with constructive experience while giving returning members additional practice. UIC Team 348 finished with a record of 4-3-1, and Team 349 finished with a competitive record of 5-2-1, earning fourth place overall out of 22 teams. Amandeep Gill won an Outstanding Attorney Award for his performance. In addition, Yasmin Ali and Jawad Shalabi received Outstanding Witness Awards for their impressive portrayals of key witnesses.

November 18, 2008

        Only a week after a strong representation at the program’s first invitational, the UIC Mock Trial team took two teams to the Fantastic Flyers Invitational hosted by Lewis University. Both teams welcomed many underclassmen, new to the program. After four close rounds against home-town rivals, UIC Team 348 earned a record of 6-2 and UIC Team 349 earned a record of 4-4. Of 22 teams, Team 348 proudly finished in sixth place. Bob O’Malley and Yasmin Ali both received Outstanding Attorney Awards for their performances.

November 10, 2008

        Last weekend the University of Illinois Chicago Mock Trial team competed at Illinois State University’s Mock Trial Invitational Tournament. This was the first tournament of the year for the program and was represented by one of the two teams. After hard fought rounds against Illinois State University, Saint Louis University, Quincy University, and Northwestern University, the team finished with a 6-2 record which resulted in a four-way tie for second place out of a total of 32 teams. Despite the strength of opposing teams and competitive scoring in the tie-breaking rounds, the team earned fourth place overall at the tournament.

September 4, 2007

 The 12 time nationally ranked UIC Mock Trial Team will begin recruiting new members.  All undergrads of all majors are encouraged to attend one of our informational sessions.

April 20, 2007 

UIC finished the year with its 12th consecutive trip to a national tournament.  Two UIC team members brought home All-American Awards.

February 19, 2007

UIC qualifies for the National Championship Tournament in St. Petersburg, Florida.  Three team members brought home individual awards.

August-September 2007

Thank you for showing interest in the UIC Mock Trial Team.  We will have a series of informational sessions beginning in early September in BSB room 1115 in the political science department.  Flyers will be posted around campus with the dates and times.  At the info sessions people will be signing up for individual interviews and we will be discussing exactly what Mock Trial is all about.  Please try to attend one of the sessions.  If you are not able to attend one of the meetings, please contact us and we will be happy to forward you the information you need.  The dates and times are as follows:

9/5 at 9am 10am and 3pm
9/6 at 12pm and 3:30pm
9/7 at 1 pm and 3pm
9/10 at  10am 1pm and 3pm
9/11 at 10am and 12pm
9/12 at 10am and 3pm

Undergraduates of all majors and ages are encouraged to join.  We look forward to meeting you and making this the 12th straight year UIC competes at a National Tournament.
