Injury Management Procedure
If the athlete DID NOT see a doctor then the trainer will clear them to resume activity.
If the athlete DID see a doctor then:
The doctor must give them a letter, on letterhead, which clears them to resume activity and specifies what they can do. This letter must come from the doctor who originally diagnosed the injury.
Once the trainer has a copy of the letter, he must also clear them to resume activity.
Bottom Line: Any athlete who has suffered an injury must be cleared by our trainer before they can return to practice/games.

Constantly remind your child to lock up all personal items in lockers. The school assumes no liability for unsecured items that are lost or stolen.
Once school begins there will be one room in each locker area that athletes may store items during the day. It will be locked at 7:35 and opened at 2:18 each day. These rooms are for practice items only and will not be open for access throughout the day.  These rooms are not an excuse for your child to not lock up their items during practice.

Winter Sports Parents Meeting.November 9, 2009
First Day of Practice for Winter Sports is Friday November 20, 2009.

Winter Sports Parents Meeting.November 9, 2009
First Day of Practice for Winter Sports is Friday November 20, 2009.
To participate that first day all athletes must have:
A completed Physical Exam/Parent Consent form (CIPPE).
If this is your child’s first sport then Sections 1 through 4 must be completed.
If this is the second sport season your child is trying out for then Section 5 (RE-CERTIFICATION BY PARENT/GUARDIAN ) must be completed. If any of the boxes under "SUPPLEMENTAL HEALTH HISTORY" are marked "Yes" then you must have a doctor fill out Section 6 as well.
If your child is trying out for the wrestling team Section 7 (CIPPE MINIMUM WRESTLING WEIGHT) must be completed.  Our trainer can do the Urine Specific Gravity/Body Weight/Percentage of Body Fat tests and then forward the information to our school physician for approval.
All dates must be after May 31, 2009. Form is good for all 2009-10 school year.
Forms are available in the Athletic Office or may be downloaded from the UHS Athletics web site.

Foreign Exchange and International students need to be cleared by District 1 to be eligible to participate in athletics. These student-athletes must be directed to the Athletic Office to process the paperwork necessary to grant them 1 year of eligibility.
    Foreign Exchange students:
Need to be a participant in a nationally recognized Foreign Exchange program.
Need to have a J-1 Visa
    International students:
Need to have a F-1 Visa

Winter Sports Parents Meeting.November 9, 2009

PIAA does not allow student-athletes to transfer schools for athletic reasons. Student-athletes new to our district may need to file transfer paperwork to be eligible to participate. If your child meets any of the conditions listed below he/she must come to the Athletic Office to see if paperwork needs to be processed.
Generally ninth grade students new to the district are not considered transfer students.
Generally students whose parents or legal guardian has moved into our district from another state or region are not considered transfer students.
Looking for student-athletes who meet any of the following:
sophomores or older.
live in our district but went to a private school in the previous year.
attended a neighboring district in the previous year.
live with a person who is not their parent or legal guardian.

Game Schedules & bus times.
Use http://www.highschoolsports.net/to get the most up-to-date information.
Type in “Unionville High School” to get to our home page. Click on “Schedules” to get the calendar. Finally use the pull-down menu to find your sport.
If you click on “INFO” button you will get a pop-up screen that has bus and early dismissal times. For V/JV games the varsity game has the bus information.
Clicking on the “Get Alerts”  or “My Account” tabs will lead you a screen to input an email address that will then automatically notify you when there is a change in the schedule. Susan Hunt has the directions for this process in the Athletic Office. There are instructions on the UHS Athletics web page as well.

UHS Athletic Web Site.
Use http://uhs.ucfsd.org/to get to the high school web site and then hit the “Athletics” tab.
Use this site as a reference for information about various athletic topics. I am interested in hearing from you about ways to improve the site.

Freshmen Level Athletics
Freshmen level provides continuation of skill development and participation from middle school programs. At this level, participation and skill development is stressed more than competition. Equal playing time is not guaranteed, as multiple variables factor into decision-making. This level is the level at which work ethic, skill development, attitude and responsibility to others begin to play a large part in determining an individual’s role on the team. The number of participants on respective teams may be limited based upon available resources.

Junior Varsity Level Athletics
The junior varsity level generally will be comprised of athletes from grades 9 through 11. At this level, competition is stressed more than participation. Athletes are beginning to understand that those with more ability, a stronger work ethic, a more positive attitude and/or team players who are stronger, generally experience more playing time. Junior varsity level is preparing student-athletes for varsity level competition. Stressed also is the teaching of student-athletes to be successful in a more competitive environment while attempting to give each individual an opportunity to participate. The number of participants on respective teams may be limited based upon available resources.

UCFSD Guidelines for Student Athletes UCFSB Policy 123
Varsity Level Athletics
The varsity level is the highest competitive program. The primary objective is placing the most skilled individuals together to compete as a team within each sport with the goal being to win each game that is played. Coaches and players should focus on improvement of skills, defining player roles, and establishing individual and team goals. Within this setting, the educational goals of athletics are taught. The head coach determines playing time according to team needs and playing time is not guaranteed. Each varsity player should realize that participation at the varsity level requires greater commitment and dedication to the sport than at previous levels. Each individual has a responsibility to the other members of the team and must contribute accordingly. Those who do not make the necessary level of commitment may find their participation time diminished and possibly compromise team membership. The number of participants on respective teams may be limited based upon available resources.

Attendance Regulations
The safest and most acceptable attendance for an athlete participating in an athletic activity is to attend school all day. An excused lateness or early dismissal must be accompanied by a doctor’s note or verifiable appointment. This does not apply to incidental tardiness.
Students who are tardy but arrive before 8:10 AM are eligible to participate that day unless they are required to have a doctors note.
Athletes are eligible to participate in any athletic activity if they are in attendance with an excused lateness before 11:00 AM.
Students who have an excused early dismissal may return to participate in their athletic activity later that day.
A student who leaves school because of illness may not participate in their athletic activity later that day without administrative approval.

Transportation
All participants of school-sponsored activities must ride district transportation, if provided, to and from all activities unless extenuating circumstances or previous arrangements in writing have been coordinated between the parent, coach and Athletic Director. Student drivers are not permitted to transport students to / from activities in lieu of parents / guardians. On the occasion of an extraordinary situation that student driving needs to occur, the parent, coach, and athletic director will be the coordination team for approval. Except for the rare and exceptional occurrence, staff members will not transport students in their private vehicles unless approval and coordination between staff member, parent and athletic director occurs.

Communication Guidelines
Please remember that the time prior to and immediately after games is not the proper time to meet with coaches. They have other things on their minds and cannot give you the time and attention you deserve.

Please remember it is the decision of the coach regarding team composition and the athletes playing time. These two issues are not subjects for discussion.

Please talk with coaches about:
your child’s academics and/or college plans.
your child’s role on the team.
opportunities for your child to improve their skills.
personal or school issues your child may have.
how you can help support the team.
