Interim Committee

 Establishing an Interim Committee

This step should be accomplished early in the first semester of the graduate program. 

Graduate Chair

  • Selects Interim Committee members (chair to be the likely mentor)
  • Sends Interim Committee members notice they are on the committee, student photo and personal statement (from application)
  • Updates the master record with the interim committee members
  • Sends memo to the student with a list of committee members and asks student to schedule a meeting with this committee

Interim Committee Chair: Establish a date for the first meeting

Interim Committee: Things to accomplish at the first meeting

  • Review academic background
  • Discuss general objectives while in the Graduate Program
  • Determine any transfer credits [rules]
  • Create list of proficiencies and how they will be met
  • Document the proficiencies that have been met
  • PhD: Pass first foreign language
  • Complete Form I (sign and forward to Graduate Chair)
Graduate Chair
  • Endorse Form I and forwards to the Graduate Division
  • Record date in master records
  • Establish a record of the proficiencies that are outstanding
