Semantics / Pragmatics

Focus

The SemLab considers issues in both the systematic acquisition of semantic data and the real-time processing of semantic comprehension. Data is gathered from a mix of laboratory settings, web-based experiments, and corpus analysis.

Current topics of research include:
  • the interpretation of plural expressions in context [with the Syntax Lab],
  • the processing of implicatures
  • the processing of implicit arguments
  • the processing of distributed quantification
Logistics

The SemLab's physical home is Stevenson 217, which houses millisecond accurate testing facilities and our web experiment server.

Lab meetings occur bi-monthly in Stevenson 217 on Tuesdays at 4 pm.
