The University of San Pano, California is one of the oldest Universities in San Pano, California. First established in 1901 by Frederick F. "Fred" Muir, successful Scottish immigrant entrepreneur, philanthropist, man of letters, bon vivant doorknob magnate and younger brother of famous poet and nature lover John Muir with the mission as he wrote in a letter to his employee and fellow seasonal San Pano resident, cannery worker and early analog blogger Jack London, "I founder this University of knowledge for several different purposes and reasons: To educate,  to teach, and to inform and also to provide learning, to elucidate, to elaborate, and to enlighten, to enliven, to lift the spirits and set fire to the brains of all the peoples of the San Pano Valley and even beyond, so long as they shall pay their fees of tuition in full and to be rightly registered students in good standing, for unto all others such learnings shall be forever forbidden, as the Regents grand houses cannot be paid for on public enlightenment alone!" And so it has been ever since.

Fun fact:  In sharp contrast to his older and more famous brother John, University founderer Frederick F. "Fred" Muir, who made much of his vast fortune producing  expensive doorknobs made from ancient Giant Redwood trees and granite extracted  from Yosemite valley's  then rich forests and famous "Half Dome" mountainous hemispherical rock formation,  which had been known simply as "Dome" before his surface mining operations reduced it to it's present truncated condition,  was violently allergic to trees and was known to have referred to his older brother derisively as "My unfortunate, freakish, long-haired, lollygagging, tree embracing antiquarian fellow womb alumnus!"
