Domino's Pizza, Focus Groups, and the Delegate Assembly

posted Nov 28, 2011 12:17 PM by GSA UC Merced

The Graduate Student Association would like to meet with each graduate group in order to find out what issues are most
important to you at UC Merced.
While discovering what services need improvement and how we can work to maintain
the services that you do like, we hope to receive nominations and cast votes for the Delegate Assembly:

The Delegate Assembly aims to increase consistent communication among individual graduate groups and your Graduate
Student Association officers. Representatives on the Delegate Assembly will be responsible for relaying graduate group
specific academic and non-academic grievances and working with GSA officers on improving graduate student satisfaction.

We will be holding graduate group specific focus groups this week in order to accomplish this. Please see the attached flyer for specific dates, times, and room assignments. We really hope to see a good turnout for each graduate group. Due to the feedback we got from last year’s focus groups, Dean Traina expedited a planned audit of our hiring process into the spring of last year. The report suggested a complete overhaul of the system, by moving the hiring into the schools. This will eventually be implemented; a pilot of it will hopefully be taking place next semester. The audit has already made appointments a priority, creating a more efficient hiring process that was hopefully noticeable this past semester.

Domino’s Pizza will be provided and by taking the survey you will enter to win one of three $50 gift cards to the University bookstore!!

If you can’t attend but would like to submit a nomination for the delegate assembly or cast a vote, please let us know as soon as possible (gsa@ucmerced.edu).

We hope to see you there!

Dear UCM Graduate Students,

I am pleased to share with you a new opportunity for UC graduate students: the UCEC Institute for Training in Educational Evaluation. The goal of the Institute is to offer an excellent opportunity for graduate students in the University of California system to participate in an intensive training in educational evaluation over a period of three days in Santa Barbara. Participants will attend method, theory, and skill-based workshops in educational evaluation conducted by nationally recognized UC scholars. Additionally, graduate students will have the opportunity to share their individual research interests and receive feedback from UC professors and other graduate students from a variety of disciplines who are also interested in educational evaluation.

You can learn more about this opportunity from the Institute web page http://www.education.ucsb.edu/ucec/Institute.html. Application information is available on the site.

Please note that the deadline to receive all required materials is April 30th at 5pm Pacific.

If you have any questions about the Institute, please contact the UCEC via email ucec@education.ucsb.edu with a subject line of “UCEC Institute Inquiry” or via telephone at 805-893-7678.
