ATTENTION: Activities during October are open to all. To attend outdoor activities later in the year, you need to be a full member of the club, in other words, you need to have paid the joining fee.
NOTICE: To signup for a walk or hike, you will receive an invite in your email inbox. For instructions regarding the signup procedure, please see our signups section. The activities highlighted in grey are past events. For more information regarding the level of each activity, please see our route grading system. Give it a go events are identified by the GIAG acronym in brackets. GIAG events are open to non-members too, however, you need to purchase tickets from the CSC Reception. General Information Walks and hikes will take place almost every weekend and maybe on a weekday if there is an available activity leader. The schedule will usually be walks on Saturdays and hikes on Sundays but sometimes it may be the reverse (i.e. walks on Sundays and hikes on Saturdays). The start and finish time of these walks and hikes will vary considerably depending on the location and the length of the route. As a general guideline, the events will usually start around 10 am. For the day trips, we will usually depart early in the morning, around 9am and return to London around 8pm (however, this depends on distance and traffic encountered during the journey). For the weekend trips away, we aim to do the major hike on the first day. On the second day, we will usually go off and do a more lightweight but still adventurous hike to recover from the previous day (and night!). For these weekend trips, we will usually depart from London on a Friday early evening or Saturday morning and return to London on that coming Sunday or Monday night around 8pm (again this may vary depending on distance and traffic). Throughout the year, we also aim to run workshops for people who are interested in becoming activity leaders. You will learn how to read a map, use a compass and how to effectively lead a large group of people with varying skill levels. You will also be informed of training courses carried out by external organisations to become a qualified first aider, minibus driver, mountain leader and many more. Finally, we are going to try and organise some talks from outside speakers. ACKNOWLEDGMENT: UCLU Hiking and Walking Club would like to thank the UCL Friends’ Trust for their generous funding towards hiking and walking equipment, as well as the hire of external facilities, such as minibuses and coaches which has helped to make these events possible. |
