All workshops are held at Rowland Hall School, 720 South Guardsman Way; Salt Lake City

Registration and Continental Breakfast at 8:30 a.m

Workshop hours:                        9:00 a.m-noon and           1:00-3:00 p.m. 

Box Lunches are available at each workshop for $6.00. Pre-order by the Wednesday BEFORE each Saturday workshop.  Lunches include a sandwich, potato salad or chips, a cookie, and water.

USU credit is available for a nominal fee. Licensure points are also available at no charge.

Why the Schulwerk Works . . . Here, There, Then and Now

Gail Kopetz is a music educator who has taught pre-school through graduate levels for over twenty-five years--including choral, piano, and music methods--and has presented at local, state, and national conferences. She completed the Administrative and Educational Leadership Program at the University of Dayton, a B.M. in Education from Ohio StateUniversity, and a M.M. degree from the University of Utah. She taught general and choral music at Intermountain C hristian School in Salt Lake City, and is currently Department Chair and Choral Director at Columbus School for Girls in Ohio.

Dalcroze Eurhythmics

Dr. R.J. David Frego received a B.M. from Brandon University in Canada, and a M.M. in choral performance, a M.M. in Education, and a Ph.D. from Florida State University. He is Director of Music at the University of Texas at San Antonio. Dr. Frego is pastpresident of the Dalcroze Society of America. As an instructor in Dalcroze Eurhythmics, he regularly presents workshops throughout North America, Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. In 1998, Frego established the Dalcroze Research Center in the Lawrence and Lee Theatre Research Institute at Ohio State. His research in movement based music education and therapy is published in music education journals and medical journals for arts medicine. Other teaching and research areas include dance philosophy and the application of Dalcroze Eurhythmics as palliative care for terminally ill adults.

This workshop day will provide a rich variety of learning opportunities for participants, including singing, playing, and movement, focusing on basic Orff pedagogy. UAOSA officers include experienced, knowledgeable music professionals. They will present their best tried and true practical ideas, that you can take home and use.

Orff Curriculum Integration

Cindy Hall teaches Orff certification courses at the University of St. Thomas and the University of Kentucky, and is an active conference and workshop clinician. She has taught music to children in public and private schools, directed an after-school arts program, and conducted church children's choirs. She served as a contributing writer of recorder materials for the Macmillan/McGraw-Hill series, Share the Music. Ms. Hall holds a B.A. in Music from Duke University, a M.A. in Music Education from the University of Oklahoma, and Orff Certification from Memphis State University and Hamline University. She currently teaches I-V music and chorus at Rowland Hall-St. Marks School in Salt Lake City.
Dianne Krehbiel received a M.M. in Education from the University of Kansas, as well as Levels I and II of Education Through Music, and Level I Orff. She has taught secondary choral music and music in the elementary classroom. She is currently the Elementary Music Specialist at Artworks School in the Granite School District. Dianne received the AFT Utah Elementary Classroom Teacher of the Year Award in 1994 and the Utah MENC Elementary Music Teacher Award in 2005.
