Partnering
with the UAH Apollo Project is a mutually beneficial arrangement, as the US
Space and Rocket Center can testify to.
Recently, while allowing Project students to look through the Rocket Center’s archives, they were able
to arrange for pieces of history in the form of blueprints for the Apollo
Command Module Block II (Revision K) to be scanned and converted into PDFs,
thus preserving them for generations to come and making them more accessible
for researchers at all academic levels around the world.
Students
from the Project had been searching through the archives for blueprints of the
Command Module Block II and found these documents, then arranged to take them
over to one of the Project’s corporate sponsors, SAIC, and use the company’s
large document scanners to create PDF versions of the documents, allowing the
USSRC to place them in a public place for students, researchers, and fans of
spaceflight to view for years to come without risking damage to the originals.
This not
only makes the documents accessible to more people, but also more practical for
research uses. Previously these large
blueprints, up to 48 inches in width, existed in multiple sheets and had to be
spread over a large work area to be viewed as a whole. Now they exist in electronic forms that can
be viewed in a much smaller space and more cohesively, providing a much better
“big picture” view of how the capsule worked.
The Project
will continue sharing resources with the Rocket Center, scanning more documents
in thanks for access to historical documents and artifacts useful in their
endeavor to build the flight simulator. This is the beginning of a long-term
friendship between these three groups, resulting in the preservation of history
for generations of students, researchers, and space flight fans all over the
world.

Yesterday saw another successful UAHuntsville Freshman Orientation. Due to rain, the club fair and live band were moved into the University Center Exhibit Hall. The project was represented by the Project Lead (Zach Groff) and Assistant Project Lead (Alexander Antonison). The 18 students who signed up for more information brings our total freshman mailing list to 70. We look forward to working with these new students this fall! |

Coming this Fall, the UAH Apollo Project will host a guest speaker series covering topics related to the project.
We're looking forward to welcoming guest speakers from Boeing, SeaLevel Systems, SAIC, UAH Faculty, and hopefully many other companies and organizations.
The Fall Speaker Series is open to all students, faculty, and staff of UAH and we look forward to seeing you all there. Dates will be announced later this summer as we start to book speakers. |
