Welcome to the demonstration web site for U3A Network - Queensland Inc.

You can easily build a web site on Google Sites for your U3A organisation and have it hosted at no cost  The other pages on this site contain information about a fictitious U3A WideBay just to show what can be done and to support the Guide attached below.

How to build your own web site on Google Sites

The attached document sets out how to use Google Sites to build your site – you will need to have a PDF reader installed on your computer to read the document but you can download it and print to read at your leisure.

Guide to Google Sites

Note:  This is the second version - updates include changes following improvements recently introduced by Google, including the ability to create your own page templates and a new way for attaching documents to your site.

Why not join our Discussion Group and get help or help others?

Note:  Google Sites changes format sometimes, so the images in the guide may not exactly reflect what you see on your screen.  The process of building your site is still the same.

Summary

The structure of a site similar to this one can be built in about 30 minutes.  Adding content will take longer depending on how much is already available to you.  Most of what you need will be in other documents.

The site templates on Google Sites are customisable in that you can add your own graphics to the banner, change colours, position of the menu and many other elements. Editing is very easy and there are various levels of edit access so it is entirely up to you how you and other authorised members can keep the information up to date.

Here are some of the features:

  • the site is free – so far, no advertising
  • you get your own “sub-domain name” – if it hasn’t been used before
  • most templates allow some sort of customising
  • menu links can be nested as per this example
  • you can add graphics and attachments to your pages
  • your site can be public or private
