Thursday 13 and 27 November  U3A Société de All Sorts           Marie our course co-ordinator refers to this as an assortment of "Hodgepodge meetings". These are held at the Musgrave/Glenwood Library every 2nd and 4th Thursday from  09:00 to 13.00.
          Bring your drinks and eats please!
                                         Approximate Agenda (but anything goes!)

                                         09:00 to 09:45:   Let’s try Thai Chi

                                         09:45 to 11:00:   Have your say
                                                   11:00 to 11:45:   Quizzes ...  Whatever!
                                                   11:45 to 12:00:   Tea and Munchies

                                                   12:00 to 01:00    Let’s Play Games/Cards/Scrabble

  • February 2010 The U3A World Conference is being hosted by U3A India     TheConference will be held at the University of Chitrakoot from 8 -10 February and the fee is $100.00 single or $150.00 with spouse.
            However, there is a 20% discount for registration before 1 October 2009 or a 10% discount if you register by January 2010. This fee (approx R800.00) includes transport from the airport to the university, accommodation and meals forthe three days of the conference.
  • The Conference theme is “Life-long Learning and Aging with Dignity”. The objective is to “mobilize the elderly as a resource to strengthen communities and families and to enhance social cohesion”. For those who wish to read a paper at the conference the sub-themes are:
  • Mind & Matter; Technology: Holistic Health; and U3A stories.   There has already been some interest from Durban U3A members to attend the conference and to extend the trip to include some sightseeing in India. Preliminary queries about interesting sites include
  • the Khujaraho Temple Caves with its famous Kama Sutra temple sculptures;
  • the Taj Mahal, which is still listed as one of the Seven Wonders of the World;

  • and India’s first national park where tigers can be viewed.

  •     A ten day trip with three star accommodation on a bed and breakfast basis

    could cost as little as R15 000.00 including the airfares from Durban to

    Delhi and the train travel internally.  The fare quoted is for a group of ten.

Lily Ramdas is looking into other quotes for longer tours that include visits to Jaipur, Manali and Nepal. These tours would cost more and would include internal air travel. The choice of tour will depend on members’ interest and budget.

Those who are interested should contact Lily Ramdas on 031 2081946 or cell: 0844888195 by the end of September 2009 if they wish to take advantage of the 20% registration discount. Alternatively they  could email Rajie Tudge at rtudge@telkomsa.net.

  • Lily will present the various tour options to those who are interested on 7th October, after the U3A meeting. .Registration forms and details can be found at http://worldu3aconference2010.org/registration.htm and a taste of the sites on offer at www.dreamztravel.net

                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                            -
