Were You

Were you thinking
of fish in the water,
or some other woes;
of tads and no poles,
or muck in your toes?

You were floating
held by green parasoll
Lithe octopus hands
cheeks not really meant
for all of that pink.

Were you thinking
he'd see only flowers;
swirls live on your gown?
The sun settled blue
in his afternoon.

You were hoping
"after he's done painting,
there's shade on the lawn."
Just my impression,
you're already gone
