Two Short Dogs is the brand name of olives and olive oil produced by Mark Hadfield and Vicky Webb. The Two Short Dogs grove is situated in Marlborough, New Zealand, better known as the home of New Zealand's award winning Sauvignon Blanc wines. The climate is warm in summer and cool in winter and usually sunny. This climate in combination with ‘young’ high mineral soil and clean environment produces oils with distinctive fresh herbaceous characters, high in nutritious oleic acid.
We do not blend our oils so each olive variety maintains its own distinctive flavour. Olive trees are like apple trees; with different varieties giving different flavoured fruits– for example the apple varieties Granny Smith verses Pacific Rose. For olive trees this results in distinctly different flavoured oils. Two of our varieties have flavours reminiscent of freshly cut grass, but one has additional fruity overtones, the third variety produces oil that tastes buttery and nutty with a peppery twang like you taste with rocket salad, our fourth variety has a medium to strong peppery sensation on the back palette.
Marlborough's olive oil is matching its sauvignon blanc counterpart on the international awards circuit. Several oils from the region have won the high international awards at the prestigious LA County Wine and Oil Fair. In 2004 a blend, that included our oil, won a silver medal at the LA CountyWine and Oil Fair against 200 entries from around the World, including from Italy, Spain, Greece, France and other top olive oil producing countries.
Uses include: dipping, drizzling on vegetables, the peppery varieties are exceptional on grilled or BBQ fish, pesto made with our oil reaches whole new heights!

Tasting notes
Frantoio - Evokes summer! Our Frantoio oil runs
true to its origins as a celebrated Tuscan variety from the heart of Italy with a
nice grassy taste! (tastes like new mown grass smells).. Great for dipping and
drizzling over vegetables and when used to make pesto, it moves the pesto to a
whole new dimension!
Leccino - Very smooth and
buttery!
Leccino is also grassy but with fruity overtones and a slight hint of pepper. It
is a very versatile oil. Great for salad dressings, drizzling over vegetables
(great over new or mashed potatoes with a twist of black pepper! Mmmmmm…), and
dipping of course.
Picual - Big Olive flavour! Picual oil suits
people who don’t like the grassy flavoured oils. The bold flavour makes it
perfect for using in pasta, stir fries and drizzling over vegetables (new
potatoes), as well as dipping.
Picholene - Pinch of pepper! Reminiscent of a
peppery watercress!. Nice balanced olivey flavour with just a hint of
herbaceous tones. Excellent over grilled or BBQ’d fish. Great for Asian stir
fries. Use anywhere you want a spicy peppery taste.
Lemon infused - Scrumptious lemon! Whole Lemons processed and pressed along with the olives to give a lovely lemon flavour. Ideal in salad and vegetable dressings as well as delicious with chicken and fish
Pinch of pepper! Reminiscent of a
peppery watercress!. Nice balanced olivey flavour with just a hint of

Olive fruit - Superlative flavours! Taking 9 weeks to process, our olives have a much lower salt content than ‘supermarket’ olives and retain that wonderful olive flavour. Use on pasta dishes, also fantastic rolled in olive oil and heated thru on the BBQ hot plate and served warm or just plain eaten from the jar!!
