Make your profile up close and personal
If you have a blog for either personal use or that is connected to your business you should of course without any further delay be using Twitter. You should link it to the very best stuff on your blog, as well as relevant stuff you see elsewhere on the web, and also try to refrain from posting items that contain links. On the contrary to the advice of some twitter gurus. If you do post tweets with link (Don’t forget to use a URL-shortening service such as tinyurl, is.gd, or xrl.us for your links.) You can post items with links but try to keep it to a minimum. When you post with too many links your tweeter feed loses its personal touch and appears to the reader to be a faceless promotional machine.
If at all possible link twitter to your about page on your home page.
Your Twitter account should talk like a person
Your Twitter account should talk like a person—even if it’s a collective “person” representing your company or brand. Think of your Twitter account as a identifiable character or person online it’s a walking, talking personification of your entire company. some good examples are to try to use the first-person (“They’re putting my stuff on sale again!”), invent a personality. Or just use the royal “we” and “our”—”Our editors have the latest on so-and-so.” But be chatty.
Some companies prefer to disclose members of their team when they’re tweeting from the company account. That’s a valid approach, too.
Before using Twitter ask yourself these 5 important questions
Have a purpose or objective(s)
The above questions for some bloggers may be easy to answer or overwhelming for some. They are however questions that I asked myself after started to use twitter but I realized that I should have asked myself these questions before I started to use this unique socializing tool. I must admit when I started using twitter it was out of sheer curiosity to see what the big deal was and what all the hype was about. My tweeting, now that I reminisce was of random and unfocused nature. I now realize that twitter is a very important tool if it is utilized in the right way to do all of the above. I strongly suggest that you either pick one or two of the above objectives, or you can come up with your own focus and stick to them.
Structure your approach
Whatever your purpose is for using twitter be serious and structure your approach create a blueprint and you will be successful. Stick to your blueprint if you want to accomplish all of your goals. Why not have multiple accounts and follow your blueprint on all of your accounts. You could have and account for socializing with friends. Another for each of your blogs to drive extra traffic. One for branding your book or product. The beauty of twitter it is a free tool and you can have as many accounts as you can keep up with. Try to stay on track with your objectives and you will eventually meet your expectations on twitter and you may even exceed them. Twitter is huge with so many trending topics it is so very easy to get caught up in its randomness.
Be unique and original
just as your blog is probably unique and informative and you probably strive to have a following of readers to keep coming back for updates and new information. Treat your Twitter presence the same way try to be original or unique as possible, stand out from the crowd this will not only get people replying to you but may catch the eye of their followers and in turn may even get you more new followers.
Make your Tweets memorable or meaningful
just as when you make a post on your blog your objective is to try to make it have an impact and be as meaningful as possible so when the reader leaves your blog post they leave thinking, wanting to either know more or of course ultimately wanting to revisit your blog come back for more info. You of course should treat your tweets also in such a responsible way. I know that is very challenging in that you only have about 140 characters to do so. You being a blogger will probably give you an edge at this because you are probably accustomed to squeezing and editing your blog posts to fit a certain word count I must admit the 140 count is very tricky and does requires one to be very clever.
Two types of Tweets
ok so now you have answered the questions of your objectives of why you are on Twitter and found your online Twitter purpose in life. There are two types of post's you can make on Twitter. The first is a normal Tweet post. You post a link to a good post, ask a question, share an idea. The second is a reply to something that someone else has seen an answer to a question that some else has said. It is a good idea not to reply too much then you run the risk of being to dilutedof just blending in to the noise. Your tweets can become less useful to your followers and can end up being confusing. Remember that most of your followers can only see half of the conversations that you’re having.
