February 8, 2010 Coach Vinny, Coach Kevin and I would like to congratulate the boys on their
fine performance this weekend. They have now secured second place in the final
CAHA Standings with an undefeated record of 6 - 0 - 3. They should be proud of
this accomplishment and enjoy what they have achieved. We have a very young
team and they have grown into a force to deal with moving into Playdown
Weekend.
However, we have only completed 25% of our goal. Our goal is to win the
National Championship in Rochester, NY. We need to make it through Playdown
Weekend in Valencia, CA.; the State Championship in Valencia, CA.; and
Nationals. But to be undefeated against all the good SoCal teams is something
that they should be proud of and celebrate amongst themselves. Last year we
surprised many people with our play and this year is no different. We have many
comments regarding our good play on Socal forum websites. Tri-Valley is a team
to be dealt with and the Socal clubs know it.
In Playdown Weekend we need to be in the top four of the eight teams that
qualified. We are in a bracket with the California Heat; Orange County Hockey
Club; and the Jr. Sharks. We have some tough teams to face but we are a tough
team also. It is win or go home and the team should feel confident as we move
on to win the National Championship. Hopefully, we can have a good turnout of
parents and friends for Playdown Weekend. The boys deserve to be cheered on for
all their good efforts this season. November 7, 2009 To the Season ticket holders (Parents and Friends): We had a very good start to our second Mid18AA season picking up 5 points out of a possible 6 in our 3 games putting our 1st CAHA weekend behind us and 2 more to go. Eight of the ten teams in our division make it to Play-downs. Our first goal is to make sure we finish in the top 8. We are currently tied for second place with the Jr. Kings. The surprise of the weekend is the SoCal Titians are in first place with 6 points winning all 3 of their games. From what we have seen the Jr. Kings are clearly very strong, and from what we have heard the California Wave are also very strong. Then there are 3 teams the Cal Heat, OCHC and Tri Valley that are in a group, talent wise, just below them. That being said, in this single game format anything can happen. This format places so much importance on each game, and the same is true of the playoff format. Perfect example, the SoCal Titians are in last place and have not won any of the 8 games in their Socal league, but they upset the Wave and went on to win all 3 of their CAHA games. We have a lot of work to do to get to the same level as the Jr. Kings. We got great goaltending from both our goalies which is so important, great goaltending is a must for success in the playoffs. The goalies had about a .950 save % which is excellent and the Power Play scored on 4 of 12 chances for a 33% success rate, while the Penalty Kill only allowed 1 goal on 11 chance’s for a 90.9% success rate. We are working hard on our defensive zone coverage, our neutral zone attack, our passing, and our work ethic. We will keep improving and we look forward to your feedback. Thanks Your Coaches, Mike, Vinny, Kevin September 18, 2009 To the Season ticket holders (Parents and Friends):
Our first weekend of live competition was filled with almost everything you could want. Blowout wins, a loss to break your heart, seeing the other team self-destruct, and a loss that showed how tough the competition is and how close we are to them.
We are seeing a lot of things that are very encouraging: team speed is excellent, our penalty kill is above average, and the power play--while not yet dominant--is showing good potential. Our work ethic is improving and will continue to make a difference as we go forward. We need to improve our passing skills as the speed of our transition game becomes more important. We need to be stronger “up the middle” from the goaltending out. So the defensive zone coverage is an area needing improvement as all the other teams have talent in the offensive zone.
We would all like to thank the members of last year’s team and the other players who came out to give us GREAT games to test our skills. The competition was priceless and the games were BIG FUN!
We are looking to schedule additional games and tournaments as we prepare to go to So-Cal for our first CAHA weekend. Those are the games that count as we continue our quest for a state title.
