The University of Rochester Press recently released Narrating war and peace in Africa, an edited volume on representations of peace and war in Africa with an emphasis on countering stereotypes about Africa. I have a chapter in this book in the Struggles for Independence section in which I analysis newspaper coverage of the Mau Mau Movement, a militant independence movement in Kenya. I haven't received my copy of the book yet, but I did attend the conference from which this book was born, and I have to say it was a great conference with fascinating papers from scholars in a variety of disciplines, including History, English, and Communications, to name a few. The book is available on Amazon, an abstract for my chapter can be found here, and the Google Books preview has my whole chapter (below).
